Alexander McCall Smith's new stand-alone (trade p/b) "44 Scotland Street" is set in Edinburgh (one of my favorite places to read about!).

I'm currently reading Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner. I'm right around chapter 5 right now and so far it's pretty good. I'm wanting to get through it pretty quickly because my husband just handed The Half-Blood Prince back to me a couple nights ago. I can't wait to get started on that book. I have a ton of stuff to read, I'm looking forward to my train rides in the morning on the way to work so I can have some "me time".

I'm STILL slogging through Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Holy smokes, it's taking me forever to get through it because it's just not holding my interest. I'm more than halfway through and STILL don't really know what the plot is supposed to be. Okay, so Mr Norrell is the best and only magician in England until Jonathan Strange comes along. They both do magic for the British army to help defeat the French. There's a faerie guy that is making Lady Pole and Steven, a servant, attend a faerie party every night. But where is the plot going? I'm finding I don't even care about these characters, and I'll probably stop reading it as soon as my next shipment of books comes in. I'm really disappointed because I heard such good things about this book and was prepared to really love it.

Since I was here last week, I've read "Stardust" by Neil Gaiman & "Soapsuds" by Finola Hughes. Then yesterday I read "Blessed are the Cheesemakers" by Sarah-Kate Lynch, which I loved. Today I've started "Judgement Calls" by Alafair Burke (daugher of James Lee Burke) - it seems pretty good so far.

My current read is Reginald Hill's Fell of Dark, and on the cover, it says it's A Dalziel and Pascoe novel...I have yet to figure out what that means, 'cause I haven't come across those names/terms yet, and I'm nearly halfway through!

Hi Liz,

How was "Soapsuds"?

I'm reading a non fiction book "We Band of Angels" by Elizabeth Norman - it centers on the nurses that were in the Phillipines during WWII when the Japanese attacked & took over - much of it is from interviews & diaries from the women themselves

Oh, it's so good to be reading again. I took a month long break when I had my knee surgery and mostly watched DVD's, 'Buffy', 'Angel', 'Six Feet Under' and 'Dead Like Me'. All were great, but I missed reading.

I just finished 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I loved it and pretty much read the whole thing in 2 days. It did leave me oddly depressed, but I immediately grabbed another book and felt much better.

On Tuesday I read a novel by Christine Feehan called, 'Shadow Game'. Loved this book! I couldn't put it down. It has it all; action, suspense, awesome characters and some oh so steamy love scenes. It is about a group of men in the military who have special psychic powers. The experimental group is sabatoged and men start dying. The daughter of the man who designed the group falls for one of the men, her father is killed and she is out to save them. Oh yeah, she's psychic, too.

I'm now halfway into 'The Mermaid Chair'. It's about a woman who has an affair with a monk/priest and the consequences of that relationship.

Not sure what I'll start next. Maybe something from my TBR stack. I think I have 'In Her Shoes' in the pile.

"It's a British mystery "

The story sounds good, are you liking it. What's wrong with British mysteries? I'm asking because I don't think I've read one.
