I just finished _The Summer I Dared_by Barbara Delinsky. It was a good beach read. Since I just returned from a week at the beach it was very appropos. I am currently without a book, horrors! But I ILLed a book by Claire Cook who is the author of _Must love dogs_ .It's a new movie with Diane Lane and I read the book on which it's based a few years ago. I think someone else on this board said they like her books so I decided to give this one a try. It's called _Multiple choice_. I'm picking it up tomorrow at the library.

I finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See last night. It was WONDERFUL. I highly recommend it. It was a very interesting look into two women's lives in China in the 1800's. It makes me very grateful to live now and in the US where I have choices in my own life (oh, and my feet don't have to be bound!). Now I've moved on to Wicked by Gregory Macguire. It's great so far.

Jackie, that's why I can't list anything I haven't read yet cause I did that once thinking I'd have plenty of time to read it and wham, it was requested that night.

I'm on the last few pages of a rather new book called "The Tea House on Mulberry Street." It sounds similar to the book Teri posted about (that I will surely read!). It's a very well written "little" book. That's my word for tight novels that are short, really well done, breezy entertainment, but not fluff. The story line & character development is similar to Maeve Binchy, yet stands well on its own. I believe this is Sharon Owens first novel. It takes place in Belfast & weaves a heartwarming story about the believeable & likeable patrons of a charming, shabby tea room. All of their lives meld with those of the owners, a childless couple whose marriage is in crisis. The dialogue & the story are so true...or what we perceive as true in our own lives. I suppose some may call it romantic, but it certainly is not a romance novel. If you're looking for "escape" entertainment that is top quality, reach for this book. You'll really enjoy it.

>>I got a question for you, at PBS, don't they e-mail you that there's been a request for a book?

Yes, they let you know there's been a request, and you tell them either "I can mail now", "I can mail later", or "I can't mail at all"

Re: PBS

"When you're ready to mail the requested book, you print out the wrapper (it has the recipient's address), and notify them that it's on its way."

Uh oh ... my printer's still in the box and I really don't want to use it.

Hello everyone, I haven't been doing much reading this summer and have been away from the message boards as well. Aside from lurking in:) I've been suprisingly busy. I have most recently reread some of my old Jude Deveraux romance stories. But here in a little while I am going to pick-up, Envy by Kathryn Harrison and Monster by James? Peretti. Maybe it's Frank anyway, I've never read anything by these authors before but the reviews on bookreporter.com were good. I did reread, Something Wicked this way Comes by Ray Bradbury a few weeks ago. I loved it. Again. ~Joey

Sorry going to but in. I was relieved to find out on PBS that the wrapper comes up in Acrobat Reader and you print from there. So yes you do see the address before it prints.

Not sure if it was this thread but I'm thinking maybe about when you get a requested book and then it accidentally gets torn or has something wrong with it.

Was odd because after I read that got my first request and was getting ready to mail it out and realized I had written in it. *gasp* It was book that had blank spots to write in. I originally had meant to but was reading away and filled in stuff before I realized what I was doing. Doh! Anyway, I whited the stuff out and went ahead and mailed it. I did write a brief apology and stick it in the book.

One final thing. Are any of you listing hardbacks?

Gretchen
