As a book buyer you had two options: the hardcover or the paperback. Both had there pros and cons. Hardcovers were stable and had great wear but they were so stiff and bulky. paperback were small and easy to carry but sometimes harder to read due to smaller print and were easy to ruin. So what does everyone think of the new trend in books?
They're not quite as big as a hardcover but have the attributes of the paperback. I've noticed lots of the more popular books coming in this size. They are also in that mid price range between the two. Most of the ones I've seen are around $13 to $14.
So what does everyone think- a good addition to the book world?

I picked up quite a few trade paperback books this summer at the library sale & the print is easier to read than some paperbacks
I guess it all depends on how much someone wants to spend & what they prefer - but another choice in how a book is available to us to read can't be a bad thing
Maggie,
I always loved to collect hardbacks but now I always go for the trade size. I just think that they are perfect and so much better suited to our budgets. I also think the size tends to remind us of the size books we read as kids. I LOVE THEM!!!!! Sue

I LOVE the new-sized trade paperbacks!!!!
Almost all my books are trade paperbacks. I love the size and quality...much better than mass market paperbacks. And, the price is much more affordable than hardcover.
I do buy hardcovers when it's a very special book...I have a beautiful set of all the Jane Austen novels! If I have to, I'll buy a mass market paperback as a last resort.
I've noticed that most books come out first as hardcover, then as trade paper back about a year later, and then as a mass market paperback. I guess the publishers are trying to milk it for all the profit they can! lol
BTW, just a tidbit of trivia...the DaVinci Code has been in print since 2003 and they have yet to offer it in a paperback version!

I, too, love the look and feel of the trade paperbacks. They usually have nice cover design and the covers are washable. I get irritated if the print is small, but it's normally a bit larger than the regular paperbacks. One difference that I find troubling is that the used bookstore here won't you the same kind of credit for them as the others. Normally, if I take in a paperback I end up paying 1/4 the cover price when I purchase another one. But they don't give that credit on the trade paperbacks. They are just a flat 1/2 cover price. Also, I'm more likely to keep trade paperbacks than the smaller ones. I usually pass the small ones along to friends or family and don't care if I get it back. If I absolutely love a book, I will try to get it in hardbound. I just like the hardbound books for my personal collection. However, the hardbound books are heavier and ackward to hold comfortably. The small paperbacks fit nicely into my purse, though. I just don't like the high price of the trade paperbacks, but I buy them anyway.

The large print is terrific but many are still published as paperbacks. Unless or until my eyeballs can't handle the smaller print, will stick to the regular hardback and paperbacks. Er, unless it's one that came only in that size.
