Did anyone participate in a summer reading program through your library this year? I usually signed up for 2-3 but only joined one this year. The Hurst Public Library here in Texas is a very busy one with various programs throughout the year. What I truly enjoy is they make an effort to include adults as well as children. The reading program allowed us to be able to read so many books then fill out forms with those titles as well as our name, address, phone. One form, after 5 hours of reading, you turned it in and received a neat library canvas bag and free Chic-Fil-A (sp?) coupon for chicken sandwich. Each week was a drawing for a different prize. It's a nice incentive to get folks reading as well. Our summer program ended the end of July and there was a nice surprise for me after work couple weeks ago. One of the librarians called to say I'd won one of the grand prizes - a scanner! That popped the ole eyeballs out! Haven't gotten it hooked up to the laptop yet but will soon. Gonna do some ebay stuff, upload old photos, so on. At the beginning and end of this reading program, the library hosted a party as a thank you to its patrons. There was more involved in this program (recommending reading lists/book discussions) but the whole thing definitely felt like a family affair.

Hi Donna,
I really wish all libraries would get their patrons involved! Reading programs are great. I haven't found a library that offers programs for adults, but they do for kids and my kids are gung-ho for prizes! Whatever it takes to get people to read!
