I finished The Girl With the Pearl Earring yesterday and did a quick read of book #4 of the Lemony Snickets set (called The Miserable Mill) and finished that on the train this morning. I love kids books (guilty pleasure I guess). My mom lent me 3 books and one of them is The Kite Runner which I just saw was the September read. I will actually get to join in a discussion! I think I'll start that one up next.
Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani. Really enjoying it. About an Italian girl named Nella living in PA in the early 1920s - 1930s approx. Similar story line to her other books.
Right now I'm reading "It's Only a Movie - Alfred Hitchcock: a personal biography". It's quite interesting. I have "Bookman's Promise" at home, but need to stop by the library tonight & have several holds in. I believe at least a couple are probably 7-day books, so they will take precedence. One is "Broken Prey" by John Sandford & the other is "The Goodbye Body: a Claire Malloy mystery" by Joan Hess.
Am currently reading Ashley Gardner's "A Regimental Murder". This is a Regency-set mystery series featuring Capt. Gabriel Lacey, a former calvary officer. It takes place after the war with Napolean Bonaparte. So far there are four books and this is the second one. Gardner is very good allowing her readers to feel a part of that time period and becoming involved with Lacey's cases. The books in order are:
'The Hanover Square Affair' 'A Regimental Murder' 'Glass House' 'The Sudbury School Murder (or Affair? can't remember)
Anyway, was happy to find a new writer and series to read.
