I'm reading While I Was Gone by Sue Miller. I had heard really good things about it, so maybe my expectations were a tad too high. It's okay so far (I'm about 1/3 of the way through it) maybe it gets better further in? I'll save judgement until I've finished the book. I've been surprised by many books before.
Just started "The Goodbye Body" a humorous mystery by Joan Hess. Claire Malloy, a bookstore owner, is housesitting for a rich, widowed customer while her apartment is being fumigated. Her teen-age daughter Caron & her friend Inez may or may not have found a dead body behind the gazebo. Also, a couple of nieces of the late husband have arrived at the house saying Aunt Dolly told them to drop in any time. They've had an accident with their car & so are stuck there until the shop can find a part for it....there's no Maserati dealer in a town, after all. So Claire has allowed them to stay until she can talk to Dolly. But she's currently waiting for Dolly to call her, since the number she left appears to be in error & just gets a "no longer in service" recording. Oh, and a substitute pool guy has shown up to introduce himself before coming to clean the pool the next day. Obviously, many possibilities for things to go wrong here. Joan Hess also writes the "Maggody" series.
I am still reading The Historian, it's kind of a long book!! As some have posted on the board previously, it is the story of a daughter who discovers her father has been searching for Dracula and how she becomes involved. I'm really enjoying it. Gae
I just finished Women Of The Silk by Gail Tsukiyama and loved it! I don't think I've read a book by her yet that I haven't enjoyed.
I'm still plugging away at Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd...going slow but only because I don't have alot of time to read. I'm also reading Someone Like You by Barbara Bretton...I think it's considered a Romance. It's my Aunt's book and she asked if I wanted to read it. I didn't really want to, but I didn't want to offend her. Anyways, I started it last night and so far, it's pretty good (I'm only on chapter 5). Has anyone else read it? Here's the link to Amazon...
I'm reading 'The Glass House' by Ashley Gardner. In the third book of this series, Capt. Gabriel Lacey has been asked to investigate the murder of a young woman, married to an older barrister in London. The victim, Peaches, was the mistress of a peer of the realm, and they were often at The Glass House - a gaming hell for men of title/extreme wealth and high class courtesans. Also reading a contemporary romance by Lisa Wingate titled 'The Lone Star Cafe'. A young magazine editor finds herself on the backroad in the Texas hill country to an appt in Austin to get a new magazine off the ground. Instead, a storm (literally and in her personal life) cause her to get waylaid at The Lone Star Cafe. She's at the crossroads of her life.
