Falling Angels by Tracy Chevalier. I just finished Girl With a Pearl Earring by her and decided to read something else she'd written. I'm not totally hooked yet, its set at the turn of the century in England, about two families from different social categories who meet in a cemetary - their plots are next to each other.

The Moon Pearl by Ruthann Lum McCann - this is a fictional novel set in the early 1800s in the Chinese countryside. The plot centers around 4 girls and their rebellion against a society in which arranged marriage is their only option. So far, it is quite interesting.

Hi Teri,

I just finished "Gods in Alabama" for my bookclub read. It was southern fiction. What an enjoyable read. It is about a girl who left her hometown ten years ago, vowing never to return. But now she is going back for her uncle's birthday party taking with her a black boyfriend. The writing style was very funny and enjoyable and the plot had some real substance! I will now start "Snowflower and the Secret Fan".

I just finished While I was Gone by Sue Miller. I didn't really like it. I couldn't relate to the characters at all. Maybe it's a generational thing (the main character is the same age as my mom, so I could only relate to what she was going through second hand). I just remember thinking "who the heck talks to their spouse/kids this way?" I was pretty disappointed considering that it came highly recommended (from my mom's friend). Oh well, win some lose some I suppose.

I started the Kite Runner this morning and I'm only 45 pages into it, but I'm really liking it so far. I have heard great reviews about this book, so I can't wait to really get into it. I have about 5 more books on my TBR list and after that I think I'll be hitting some of you ladies up for some suggestions.

Katie Fforde's "Paradise Fields" set in a small community in England. Nel is a widow with teenaged children who also is trying to get the local farmer's market made official. It's doing ok on its own but she and others feel would do better if it became a place that more tourists would shop/visit. Problem is the property's heirs have decided to sell off and Nel (with her friends) is trying to stop this from happening. Plus her boyfriend, Simon, is no help. And there's a cute barrister named Jake who's helping her out that leaves Nel wondering about starting a new relationship.

Also reading Ashley Gardner's "The Sudbury School Murders". In this installment Capt. Lacey has been working as secretary to the school's director. The director also wants Lacey to look into some serious pranks that have been going on. During the course of investigating, a murder incurs and the Captain is off to find the killer.

I'm reading Resurrection Dreams by Richard Laymon. It's a bit of an odd book. I'm about half way through and at this point I'm not sure I'll finish it.

A man discovers he has the ability to bring people back from the dead, and he's determined to work his magic on the girl of his dreams--but first he'll have to kill her.

I just finished reading The Mermaid Chair a few minutes ago...is it really necessary for me to do the bit about the plot?
