"This novel is not to be tossed lightly aside, but hurled with great force."

"Bad Boys Down Under" by Nancy Warren is my #1 candidate for Worst Read of 2005.

I haven't read many books this year, but there were a few that I really disliked. I think it's hard to find good books sometimes. The one thing that bothers me to no end is a book that builds and builds and has great character and plot development and then completely fizzles at the end. It's like the author had no idea how to end the book but figured it was just getting to be too long, so we'll end it.... NOW! It's different if the books are in a series (obviously) but most of the books I read just kind of stopped short. It was kind of upsetting. I felt cheated by Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner because it seemed like everything was wrapped up in about 5 mintues, everyone was happy again and all problems were solved. The end. A couple more chapters dealing with the characters resolutions would have gone a long way IMO.

I also didn't like While I was Gone by Sue Miller, but for a different reason. I couldn't relate to the main character and they way everyone talked to each other was so unbelievable that I just couldn't buy into it. That, and I just couldn't relate to all those secrets. Maybe it was a generational thing (the main character was a good 25 years my senior).

Sarenna
(Hoping I didn't offend anyone).

The Historian: long-winded, flat-voiced, and, ultimately, nothing very interesting about Dracula.

AMERICAN GODS!!!I picked up this book because i saw it as a group read and i forced myself to read 200 pages and then ran it back to the library as fast as i could.

I think most of the problems i find with "bad books" is people saying, "you gotta read this book, it's great, i couldn't put it down" all the hype has me pining for the book until i start to read and then am disapointed. People have different tastes in books and what constitutes to them "a great read".

I have found that once i've read a book and see others who recommend it, i start looking for books that they are reading since I know i enjoyed prior recommendations and feel we probably have the same tastes in books.

This is just a side note....really off topic, but I read your comment below about Australia.

***The "Bad Boys" series books are collections of light romances.I was particularly looking forward to this title, as Australia fascinates me(and those hunky Aussie men!) ****

I was wondering if you have watched "MacLeod's Daughters" on WE? It's a really enjoyable Australian series. I just happened to catch the ads for it before they showed the first episode & tried it. I've been hooked ever since. They just did a marathon of the 2nd season on Labor Day Weekend. Here's a link to info:
