I finished reading "Snowflower" last week. I had it on my list because some wonderful person on this board recomended it! What a beautiful read. I was taken into this world from the first page. I guess you can tell how much I loved this book and I thank whom ever it was who brought it to our attention.

If you read this please share some of your thoughts about it with me! Sue

Wasn't that a wonderful book, Sue? I just loved it. Doesn't it make you glad to be a woman today and not in 19th century China? The descriptions of footbinding were pretty graphic. I had no idea what was involved. It's absolutely barbaric, and I just don't understand the point of it. I guess it goes along with other female mutilations in other societies. Thank goodness that is a practice that has stopped.

Hi Scrappy,
Yes it was gruesome to read about the bindings. I remember reading that in "Memoirs of a Geisha". Women certainly had a rough life in China and I wonder what it is like today. They are still giving away baby girls so it can't have changed too much!
