Which authors are from your city or state?

I live in CT and quite a few authors live here. One of my favorite authors is Mark Twain. Although he was not born here he lived here for a long time. His house is a museum outside of Hartford.

A fairly well known book that takes place here is _The Stepford Wives_by Ira Levin. However, Stepford is a ficticious CT town. Levin created the name by combing the name of two real CT towns.

The town I live in is very small and not large enough to have a well know author. This morning a well-known author's death was all over the news. He lived in Warren, CT which is also a small town and about 40mins north of where I live. See news story below.

Author M. Scott Peck, who wrote the best-seller "The Road Less Traveled" and other novels, has died. He was 69.

Peck died Sunday at his home in Warren, longtime friend and Los Angeles publicist Michael Levine said. He had suffered from pancreatic and liver duct cancer.

Born in New York City, Peck has been the medical director of the New Milford Hospital Mental Health Clinic and a psychiatrist in private practice in New Milford.

Peck spent more than 10 years in private practice and had his first book "The Road Less Traveled" published in 1978. The self-help book that begins, "Life is difficult," has sold more than 6 million copies in North America and been translated into 20 languages. By the mid-1990s, the book had made 258 appearances on The New York Times best-seller list.

I know there are a lot of authors from the Los Angeles area. But in particular I enjoyed reading Denise Hamilton. She sets her books in the San Gabriel Valley area, and since I used to live there I felt more involved with the book and the things she was talking about I could identify with more. But I enjoy reading books from anywhere and learning a little about the different cities when the author decides to describe them. Gae

Not to be a downer, but the next time you have the opportunity to see him you should because when he was at the L.A. Times Festival of Books this April he was looking a little tired and not feeling well. It would be so cool for you to see him!!

I'm not sure how famous he is outside of here, but my town is also the hometown of William Saroyan?

I did a quick search to double check a couple I thought were from RI, and found a few others that really surprised me!

I've heard of him! But I don't think I've read anything by him.

Susan Dunlap is a Northern CA writer who has 2-3 Bay Area series, one of which takes place here in Sonoma County. However, she hasn't had anything published since 1999.

Jacqueline Girdner is from & writes about Marin County.

Dianne Day writes about Fremont Jones, who runs a typewriting service in turn-of-the-century San Francisco. The author lives in Pacific Grove.

Lia Matera also writes a couple of San Francisco mystery series. Unfortunately, she's another one who hasn't had anything out since the 90's.

Iknow there are others, but this is all I can think of right now.

Okay, I'm feeling all left out 'cause I can't think of a single author I've read who was from -- and wrote about -- Phoenix.
