Nope, Mr. Laymon is an American... his books just gained more popularity during his lifetime over in the UK and Australia.

I'm sure there are MANY more authors, but right now, the only one from Chicago that I can think of is Sara Paretsky, who writes the VI Warshawski private eye novels.

Can't think of any Ft. Worth writers, but some Texas authors that come to mind are:

Jeff Abbott who writes mysteries set in south & southeast Texas. His new book 'Panic' has just been published.

Rick Riordan writes the Tres Navarre mystery series set in San Antonio.

Susan Wittig Albert writes the delightful China Bayles mystery novels set in the Texas Hill Country.

Kinky Friedman pens truly off-the-wall mysteries and other non-fiction which will leave you laughing.

Elmer Kelton has written westerns for many years.

Joe Lansdale resides in East Texas. His mysteries are dark and disturbing but hard to put down.

And then there's Larry McMurtry who wrote my favorite 'Lonesome Dove.'
