I'm reading Richard Laymon's horror novel In The Dark. So far it is very good. It's one of those books that keeps you looking for clues and trying to guess what will happen next.

I just started _The Historian_by Elizabeth Kostova. It's over 600pgs and small print. I hope I finish it withing the 3 weeks I have. I'll have to step up my reading time. Dh is going away this weekend so I'll probably have a lot of time to read.

I'm reading "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore. The title caught my eye because it sounded so funny that I knew I had to read it (I have kind of a warped sense of humor anyway). It fits my sense of humor and I think it's really funny, but I can also see how someone may find it offensive. Probably not a book for everyone, but I'm really enjoying it. For some reason, the reading is slower than other books, so this will probably take me through the end of September no problem. I think after that I'll try Undead and Unwed (recommended on this board) and I want to get Honk and Holler by Billie Letts (also recommended) to read after that. I'm looking for lighter reads, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Teri,

I am still reading "Widow of the South". It's okay but I'm not in love with it. I'm just plodding along. I've also been watching some new TV shows and taking care of the grandaughter. Sue

I am currently reading Canery Row by John Steinbeck. It is quite good. So far nothing as epic as the Grapes of Wrath, but it is a really interesting look into a time and place.

I've just started a new book. My friend and I saw this author at a panel discussion at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Her name is Carolina Garcia-Aguilera. The book is called Bloody Waters. Her character is Lupe Solano, a Cuban-American in Miami who is a private investigator. Carolina was a private investigator before she became an author. I am enjoying it so far. The story is that she is asked to track down the mother of an adopted child. The child needs a bone marrow transplant from the mother. The problem...she was illegally adopted! Gae

I finished, Speak Softly, She Can Hear. By Pam Lewis, a few days ago. It was very good in a dark and frustating kind of way. It's about a 16 yr old Carole. One night she and her best friend makes a bad decision and then lives her life haunted by it. Give it a try if you like suspenseful thrillers.
I am now reading a biography. Smashed by Koren Zailckas. I am about half way through it. She had her first drink at 15 and now we are up to her sophomore year in college. It is a very alcohol romantized story. I like it but the amount of drinking is just beyond me. Sure I like to have some drinks every now and again, but her story is chuckfull of bingeing, puking, and trips to the hospital.
