New Series Needed
| Fri, 10-07-2005 - 6:54am |
I just finished the last book of Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper series. It just came out recently so it will probably be at least a year before a new one comes out. So I need a new mystery series to start. I'm sure you all have some great suggestions so let me have them.

Stuart Woods apprently has some series. I really have no clue anything about them but saw something posted about them on another board. I'm going to try the first in his Stone Barrington series. The first book is New York Dead. Will be awhile before I get to it but adding it to my list. Here is a link that was also given:

He is new to me anyway I assume more people have read him than not though. So thought I'd mention him.

You might want to try S.J. Rozan's Lydia Chin/Bill Smith series. Both are partners in a private investigation firm in NYC. Rozan is different in that she alternates the narration in each book in first person. The first book 'China Trade' has Lydia Chin narrating. You get a good insight into Lydia's Chinese background. Neither of her parents approves of her job; thinks she oughta be married with a family. And having an 'round-eye' as a partner doesn't help. In the second book, Bill Smith is the primary narrator; you get a looksee into his view of the world and how he likes Lydia. But she keeps a distance from him because she doesn't want to ruin the partnership. Anyway, Rozan is an excellent writer who's won awards for her series. Her website is www.sjrozan.com

Maggie,
Author Yasmine Galenorn has a Chintz 'N China series, involving a tea shop, a mom & her kids, a supernatural / paranormal mystery, a bit of romance ... and a bit of community theater.
"A Ghost of a Chance" is #1 in the series:

It was fun -- a lot thrown into the book by the author, but it was working ...
Thanks for the sugestions. I have read "Ghost of a Chance" and enjoyed it . I have actually requested a book from the library that sounds promising.
"I Dreamed I Married Perry MAson" by SUsan Kandel
I'll let you knwo how it goes:)
I've read the Lydia Chin/Bill Smith books too. They are very good & it's kind of fun getting the two different viewpoints. I also enjoyed "I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason" & have just requested the next in the series - "Not a Girl Detective". The main character writes biographies of mystery authors, & this one is about "Carolyn Keene" (a pseudonym for several different authors) & the Nancy Drew books.
Some other good, mostly light, mystery series are the "China Bayles" books by Susan Wittig Albert, the "Madeline Bean" books by Jerrilynn Farmer, the "Goldie Bear" books by Dianne Mott Davidson, the "Stella the Stargazer" books by Christine T. Jorgensen, the "Wollie Shelley" books by Harley Jane Kozak, the "Temperance Brennan" books by Kathy Reichs, the "Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus" books by Faye Kellerman & the "Kate Jasper" books by Jacqueline Girdner. Also, any of the series by Robert B. Parker. Of course, "Stop You're Killing Me" is a great place to find out the order of any of these.
