I've only done this twice. Once was Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman. Now in my defense the book came out with a new cover when I bought it the second time for the movie release. However, I noticed pretty quickly that I'd read it before didn't take me the hole book. ;o)
There was a book by Beatrice Small that I checked out from the Library several times. Not sure why, maybe I liked the cover or the title but again noticed fairly quickly that I had read it before. Again in my defense it was when I was going through a historical romance period and after awhile covers and story lines all start to sound the same.
I've done it, too. I blame menopause, it's my all-purpose goof up excuse for every bozo thing I do anymore. I know I NEED to be diligent about keeping a list of the books I read, it's just too hard to keep all those titles in your head.
I've done that once or twice. When you read as many books as all of us do, it's not surprising. Unless you want to walk around with a mile-high thick notebook of everything you've ever read in your life, I can't think of any other way to prevent it from happening, LOL.
Look at it this way. Obviously the book must be a good one, or it wouldn't have struck your interest (again), and now you can give it away as a present or do a charitable deed and donate it to the library so others can enjoy it, LOL.
I just did that. I spent the whole book thinking I;d read it before but I finished it anyhow. Sometimes it's hard because publishers will re-release a book with a new cover and different blurb on the back. I was just cruising the library book shelves and found a Barbara Michael's book that didn't sound familiar and I was really racking my brains. I thought I had ALL of her books. So I just had to borrow it. ANd yup there it was on my bookshelf- different cover and a different blurb.
