The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd. BTW, my DM age 90, going strong, but somewhat more frail, just finished this book.....large print. She absolutely loved it! We talked about the strong women in the book & she related to each & everyone of them. Then she proceeded to tell me about how she disliked the young girl's dad......this was the best....to discuss a book with my sweet DM, another strong woman. What a Christmas present for me. The clincher however was when she asked if I thought I could find another book like that. Any suggestions? dee

Dee, I can SO relate to your joy and gratitude regarding the gift of being able to discuss a mutual book with your mother.

My suggestions would be some Barbara Kingsolver. Personal favorite is The Bean Trees but they have a similar feel as The Secret Life of Bees. Also, Light on Snow by Anita Shreve might be of interest. Book of Dead Birds by Gayle Brandies. I'll stop there or I'll list all my favorites totally missing the point.

Nothing better than connecting with someone close to you and books are a great way to do that.

Glad to see someone liked State of Fear! I didn't have it in my top ten but really enjoyed it. Very thought provoking!

Also, Insomnia obviously you liked it but how does it compare to the movie. I think I might like to read it but the movie didn't do anything to encourage me. Though I love the idea of being set in Alaska and the whole light and dark psychological aspect.
