Can I jump right into the Dean Koontz bandwagon? hehe I read Forever Odd a week or two ago after loving Odd Thomas. Odd Thomas is back on my TBR list for this year so I'm calling it an old favorite. I cry at the end everytime!
I'm excited for my new books to arrive in a couple days from Borders - I'll be reading Middlesex first I think!
An old favorite was Dean Koontz. I recently read his Life Expectancies and first two Frankenstein novels. I'd previously read and enjoyed Lightning and House Of Thunder, as well as that novel about the scientifically engineered super-intelligent Golden Retriever and its twisted and evil counterpart critter (what WAS that title? Watchers? Others?)
A new favorite would be Octavia Butler. Read her newest, The Fledgling, a couple of months ago. Since that time, I'm hoping to read more by her. The library has some of her Oonkali novels as well as a few others, which look interesting and which I plan to check out soon.
You know those are the only ones I haven't read of his. I think I'm going to have to dust them off and read them now! And you're right about pulling the rug out from under you! THat was the best plot twist I've read in a long time. Reminds me of the movie sixth sense - you know, how nothing in it was really how the main character thought until the very end when everything makes sense? It's been a long time since I read a book that kept you (unknowingly) in the dark for so long. DK and SK have alot in common, except SK isn't writing anymore. Which is unfortunate because I think he was just starting to write the good stuff again. Bag of Bones was just terrible. I'm almost ashamed to have a signed copy of it! But then with his later books like Dreamcatcher, he semmed back to his old self. I think Thomas Harris had it right - it doesn't matter if it takes 11 years for your next book to come out, if it's good, its worth it!
Lots of Dean Koontz fans I see. I don't think I've ever read one. Though must admit I was tempted by the Frankenstein series. An Old Favorite for me would be Leslie Glass and I have her newest April Woo book at the bookstore waiting for me to pick up. A New favorite I want to read more of in this new year is Elizabeth Berg. I enjoyed the group read last year and I do have one other on my shelf to get to.
Ooh, Ooh - I didn't realize the new April Woo book was out yet! I really like that series. It sure seems like they are getting further apart though. But, maybe I discovered the series after there were several already out. Have you read S.J. Rozan's Lydia Chin/Bill Smith series? Sort of a similar theme with her parents - but not quite as extreme. But the books in the series alternate - one book featuring Chin, then one featuring Smith - but with both involved. Pretty good. It was kind of funny - I happened to discover both series about the same time.

Something Old - An Old Favorite (Author)
Dean Koontz is an Old Favorite I've just read (my first read of 2006, Odd Thomas).

Have you read DK's Frankenstein Books 1 &/or 2?
It's funny you should ask that -- yesterday I was at B&N spending my Christmas gift certificate and picked up "Gerald's Game" by Stephen King.
