A 2006 Resolution

Okay we browse the bookstores, we descend on our local libraries at least once a month and we probably all belong to some sort of book club or exchange. How many of us have at least one book shelf or more with books at home that we HAVEN'T read? you know what I'm talking about... the I'll get to them after this next book or I own it so I don't have to rush right into it like I do a borrowed book.

I am making a resolution to read at least one book a month off of my "I'll get to it later" shelf. Some of those books have been there for at least a year or more.

Who's with me?

I like your idea! I have a shelf full of books I haven't read, and then I go to the library and find something else! urgh!

I have tons of books on shelves too. Mostly ones I picked up at library sales and such very cheap. I have already read two from it this month and plan to keep working on it!
Maybe we will keep each other motivated!

I can honestly say that there's not a single book on my shelf that I haven't read or re-read (unless it's a book belonging to dh, LOL.)

My resolution every year is to organize my books like in a library: Genres together, arranged alaphabetically, etc. Of course, I get it half-way done and then as I start adding more to the collection the whole scheme gradually falls apart again, till sometimes I really have to search to figure out where I put what book. ("Let's see, is it under this one on this shelf, or behind that one over there?") One of these YEARS I will succeed and KEEP everything organized, though, LOL.

Well, I keep resolving to stop buying more books...which lasts until I'm bored at work or home and go to amazon.com...

I'm with you...I have a ton of books on my shelves I haven't read.

I have another resolution...read 26 New-To-Me authors, one for each letter of the alphabet. I think it was originally a challenge given by a PBS bookclub, and someone suggested it over on the Fiction Lover's board here on ivillage. I've already started...Watership Down by Richard Adams...one of the many unread books collecting dust on my bookshelves! LOL

And, another resolution that I've made for a few years now and have never kept...I am going to read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo this year, even if it kills me! ;)

There's a BC challenge sort of along these lines - the goal is to read and release as many books registered by other people as you can
