Are there certain subjects that you won't read about? Are there certain books that you shy away from due to the content? Is there a hot spot in reading for you?

I'm not a fan of "bodice rippers" - historical romance.

I very rarely turn away a book based on a subject matter.

I agree with Ann -- I don't do 'bodice-rippers' either because I just find them inane.

I do agree with your point about "bodice rippers". However, I do use them to lighten up my mood after I've read a couple of heavy thinking books. The one-note books do lighten up my mood so I don't mind them so much.

I don't read any "romance" novels. I like to be engaged in a good story, not listening to the description of his "rippling muscular chest"... I don't mind sex in a book or a love story (like many of Nicholas Sparks' books), but to have no other point than to talk about this person and getting them into bed...well, no thanks.

I have to agree that the romance novels can get repetitive with their formulas - i noticed after reading a few of Nora Roberts books that the women were so much the same except with different names and hair colors that I stopped reading her. And the main character is always beautiful. I prefer them to be more real like in Jennifer Weiner's books (Good in Bed). Some of the bodice rippers can be fun though - especially the ones that end up time travelling by some strange methods. But i gotta laugh over over some of the detailed sexcapades.

And I stopped reading Oprahs book club selections because they were all so sad and depressing.

I don't like Romance novels either.I also have issues with books that have church subject matter in them thats probably I haven't read The Davinci Code yet.I just have issues with Bible and religion material it s so complicated, uninteresting to me.I also shy away from Lawyer/courtroom themes.
I love novels about dsyfunctional families, people overcoming some sort of drama.I enjoy scary stories,i love love the occult and witches and new age themes.
