It doesn't matter to me whether it's first or third person. First person is a bit more personal though. Whichever the author chooses, though, he needs to maintain that through the book, otherwise it's so annoying.
I don't really enjoy books with multiple points of view, just because it's SO HARD to do well. I can't think of many authors that have written books in that manner that I really like.
I think first person is best but I really don't care that much. I'll read changing points of view but I sometimes get confused in the beginning because I don't pay close attention. All in all it doesn't really matter as long as it's a good book.
Is it me, or is using the first person more common these days?

Hi Harriet ~
Always enjoy reading your insightful posts.
Like everyone else, point of view really doesn't matter to me much, but I will take issue with the point of view switching from character to character.
I agree with Kim on the POV.
I remember when i first began to get into reading books (12 years old?) and i was unable to read books which were written in the first person for some reason ... maybe because the books i was used to reading were written in the 2nd or 3rd and so it was a hurdle to overcome that i eventually did and now it doesnt matter either way. I also dont mind the POV jumps as long as it doesnt get confusing about who is who. I had some trouble with this in a book i recently read called "The Eight" by Katherine Neville, a thriller about a mythic chess set that jumps back and forth in time between the French revolution and modern day.
