I'm finally reading "Julie and Julia" by Julie Powell. The author decideds to spend a year cooking from her Julia Child's french cookbook. It sounded like a fun read. It's not exactly what I had anticipated- so I'm a bit disapointed in the read but each chapter is an adventure.
I just started Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich. It's very Stephanie Plum. She really has a thing for donuts because they were mentioned already in this book. That's the problem with reading her books, I always have a craving for donuts!
I'm reading Sara Gran's "Dope" which has received excellent reviews. Her writing is compared to Jim Thompson whose books were gritty and hardboiled. I seem to be on a streak of reading such novels lately. This book is unique in that it takes place in NYC during the 1950s and the main character, Josephine Flannigan, is a former heroin junkie. She's had a poor childhood with a drug addict mother and the story has her two years 'clean' so far from using. A rich socialite asks Josephine to help find her daughter and offers $1000. That's quite a lot of cash for back then and Jo says yes. The missing daughter is also missing along with her pimp. The investigation takes Josephine back into her former neighborhood and it's going to be very tough being around the people she used to get high with. It's not a very big book but already packs a punch.
I'm halfway through Prince Caspian (C.S. Lewis) and also halfway through Hollywood Divorces (Jackie Collins). Collins is def. a fluff read, but pretty good if you want a no brainer.
I'm currently reading "Someone Like You" by Cathy Kelly - one of my books for the Irish author group read. I got carried away and already read "The Ballroom on Magnolia Street" by Sharon Owens & "Watermelon" by Marion Keyes. LOL! I just picked up "Two-Minute Rule" by Robert Crais & "The Camel Club" by David Baldacci at the library last night, both 7-day books. So one of them is next. Although I also bought "Blood-Sucking Fiends" by Christopher Moore at his book signing last night & really want to read that one.
OHHHHH I am so envious!!! I did not know about Ireland, but I looked on Amazon, and it looks like an amazing book!!! I have to find a way to get it shipped (amazon is too expensive for overseas shipping).
I am trying to finish The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - and the start was lovely... but after 650 pages about vampires, one really need garlic! I have started Gilead, Marilynne Robinson - but it isn't at all what I thought. Way too meditative and not factual enough... I think I'll go to bed with a magazine and a cookbook to make up for all this.

I have 30 pages left in the novel Ireland, and a couple chapters in a quick read I just had to pick up the last couple of days.
