Along the same lines as the Question of the Week. Have you ever disliked a book so much that you actually threw it in the trash??

Believe it or not, I did toss one once. I normally enjoy reading books of the fantasy-type genre, but I did read one once that I hated so much I trashed it. I didn't want anyone else to read it either, so out it went. It was called, 'The Book of Shadows' I thought it had way too much nasty, gross descriptions of abusive behaviors. I'm probably a bit too sensitive about descriptions of torture and that sort of thing, but it really turns me off. I can take a bit of it on occassion, especially when it is important to the book. But sometimes there is just no redeeming value in it. Of course, I could have put the book down and not bothered to finish it, but I did finish the book. Why, I don't know.

I have never thrown a book away but I have thrown a book. As we all know books are sacred objects and should be treated as such. I have never bent down a page or done anything on purpose to ever harm a book; except: When I finished reading "Horse Whisperer" by Nicholas Evans I literally threw it across the room. I thought the ending was such a cop out by the author. Then they made a movie and that was even worse!

Nope, never (though I was sorely tempted to do that when it came to Wild Animus!

I have never thrown a book into the trash but I have given away many books I just can't 'get' into. I have a tendancy to buy books by Author's name and get very upset when an author I really, really like doesn't put out a book (Judith McNaught hasn't put anything out for years now).
I read a book and if I can't get into it by the first chapter I stop reading because I'm usually too busy to read it - I do the same with movies.

Well, "When Stella Got her Groove Back" certainly made me WANT to toss it in the trash, but since it was a library book, I controlled myself

ooh - I see we have some new emoticons ! how fun !

I should probably be ashamed to say so but i actually did throw a book away a few years ago. I've never done that before but i was duped. it was the first in the "Left Behind" series. I bought it thinking it was a science fiction story and it turned out to be a preachy religious thing and it pissed me off so i tossed it so no one else would get ripped off too.

I've also been guilty of bending pages but only on my own paperbacks - never a hardcopy or a library book. If you have a kind of reverence for books and you enjoyed the story "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury , check out "A Gift Upon the Shore" by M.K. Wren

Moon, I've read 'A Gift Upon The Shore' also, a long time ago. I lived in Oregon at the time and I loved the book. Yes, it had a reverence for books and built the theme around it. Awesome book!

You didn't like Horse Whisperer - I loved it. And then I loved the movie too. I like Robert Redford a lot. It was just a sad ending. I do like happy endings better.

No I don't think I've ever thrown one away.I have thrown them across the room before.I always either give the book to someone else or i'll give it to a shelter,or resale shop,or library.
