This is called a pinhead stitch and deals with those isolated stitches that can be so hard to secure and also is an alternative to the loop method of starting your thread when you are working with blended threads and cannot loop. I tried it this morning and it works quite well. It did leave the starting stitch a bit more bulky, but if you were doing those scattered `confetti' stitches you would not have that problem.
