Are you Trendy?
| Tue, 04-25-2006 - 8:48am |
There are a lot of trends in book genres these days. Chic Lit is popular is is the Supernatural with Vampires being in the lead I think. Do you keep up with the latest trends? Or do you just read what appeals to you and if it happens to be hot well okay?
What are some trends that you notice in your reading circles? What authors are "in"?

I don't know if I'm keeping up with trends or just picking up books simply because so many people are talking about them....or is that the same thing??? ;)
I read what I like, which is why I don't belong to any book clubs that tell me what to read (I like the one here because I have the choice to read it or not, lol).

I tend to be trendy, because I love to talk about what I'm reading and it's easier to find people who have read the trendier books.
I am still picky with the genres, though. I still haven't gotten into any Bridget Jones-esque books, but I hopped on the Dan Brown train pretty quickly.
I read what interests me, I read A LOT, and if it happens to be a "hot" book so that people know what on earth I am raving about when I ramble on enthusiastically, so much the better.
(However, given the fact that my FAVORITE genre is SF/Fantasy, most people are still confused by my recommendations, LOL. Even on the SF/Fantasy board here at the Village, I don't think very many people have read most of the authors that I have. The Thrillers/Horror board knows almost every horror author I've ever read, though! And yes, in Thrillers/Horror vampire fiction is VERY popular. But vampires are always popular. They're classic horror, popular even back in Victorian England; look at Carmilla and Bram Stoker's Dracula, for example.)
I do have to thank this board and the Fiction Lovers board for several good recommendations though, that I might not otherwise have thought to read. For example, The Widow's War, and The Widow Of The South. (1000 White Women and The Red Tent I discovered on my own, and a coworker turned me on to Jodi Picoult with My Sister's Keeper.) Looking forward to mnay more reads as suggested by my fellow book lovers here!
I don't necessarily follow the trends, but if something is trendy and being talked about alot it is very likely to catch my attention. Then I read some blurbs and stuff and decide if it might be something I like.
Other than these groups online I don't know alot of other readers.
Too a certain degree I guess.
