Schmetz needles

Need a link to a chart showing color markings so I can identify what I have. My DGrD was playing with my pincushion that stores my needles by type. Even with the magnifier, my aging eyes can't read the size - LOL.

Jacquie, I can't find what you are looking for. Here is a link to the Schmetz site: http://www.schmetzneedles.com/schmetz1.htm

I am looking at my Schmetz needles now and cannot see any color coding on them.

This might help:

http://www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/sewing-machine-needle-guide.html

although I see when I google that not all needles are color-coded and some brands other than Schmetz also use color codes.

Anyway, here is an interesting response on another forum (scroll down to the response from Aimee S):

The first link was just what I was looking for. I have a yellowed page from a magazine on my display board, but it doesn't mention the colors. I guess I need to borrow DHs visor/magifier to figure out what I have.

Thanks,

Schmetz doesn't have color coding. Singer does. Red is sharp; yellow is stretch. Then green-9; orange-11; blue-14; purple 16.

I stand corrected. All I've ever used was Schmetz Universal. I had no idea that Schmetz color codes their speciality needles.

Finally got mine sorted out, will now try the trick of putting slightly used needles back in original container with flat side out. I must have some old Schmetz needles, because mine have color dots at top of the shank -

Microtex - purple
embroidery - red
stretch - gold
jeans - blue green
quilt - green
