I'm teaching myself to crochet and I'm a little confused about what to do after I finish the first row and turn my piece. My pattern says "row 2: working under 2 top loops of each stitch in previous row, single crochet across row." My question is, if my piece is on my left side and I'm looking at it, which part is the top? Is it the "side" that looks braided or what? I've looked at it holding the piece flat like a blanket and thought that was the top and I've held the piece standing up so my foundation chain is down and thought the part I'm about to crochet was the top. Are there any good sites or words that can help me understand how to locate the top so I can continue? Thanks!

Hi Heather and welcome to the wonderful world of crochet! :-)

Here is a link to a nice site with pictures of a single crochet. http://crochet.about.com/library/bl_singlecrochet.htm?once=true& and this site actually has video's you can download to see the stitch demonstrated. http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?content_id=68

Hi! Welcome to the board!!! This is a great resource for patterns, ideas, and just general chit chat. We hope to see you more often as you get your projects started and please don't forget to post pictures. That's the best part!
