Very pretty afghan, it's definitely crocheted.

Just wanted to say HI and welcome.

My Great Aunt started an afghan before she passed away. She was making sampler panels about 8 inches wide with different colors and stitches. Between each panel she did a 4 inch black strip of all knit. Basically she was making a bunch of scarves and sewing them together! ;-) This would be a great way for you to improve you knitting skills, find some patterns you like and make strips. Most of the time you would need to crochet a border around but we can help you with that. ;-)

I'll have to dig out the bag it is in and take pictures, I've been thinking about her a lot lately and I thing she's sending me a sign she wants me to finish up her afghan. ;)

Hi there! I think Tracy's nailed it right on the head and you should be able to duplicate it now.

Oh, it's for sure crocheted, and PP probably called the stitch right. Only thing I've got to add is that I don't think it was done as independent strips, but just multiple colors worked into one piece.
