Personally, I find knitting in the round (on either circs or DPNs) to be faster then knitting flat.

I haven't given the DPNs a try yet because I need to get some, but I agree that the rows seem to knit up faster!

I don't think you are doing it at all if you are making a throw ie you are not knitting in the round at all
