I saw these in my latest issue of Glamour - 2 personal ads from the 1800's that were excerpted from a new book.  Didn't know they were around that long.  At least the guys mention love & forever...

"I am tired of being alone musing on my pug, Tansey.  want a chubby little woman to love in stead.  Am 5 feet 5 & 22."  Canadian Matrimonial News  1892

"Any gal who's got a bed, coffee pot, & skillit...can make a hunting shirt, and knows how to take care of children, can have my services until death parts us both of us."  Batesville News, Arkansas  1855

The 2nd one sounds like the mail order brides that were common on the frontier. Too bad these guys are probably dead now. I might marry them! ;o)
