Has anybody seen today's comic strips, "Ziggy" & "Silo Roberts"? I just plain don't *get* Ziggy. Neither does anybody else here at work. And Silo, which isn't a great strip to begin with, makes reference to somebody I never heard of. Who is Derek Jeter?

I looked up Silo....and not sure why it's *funny* . . .but Derek Jeter is a fairly famous baseball player, who I believe is half-black.

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/2FB4F13B1453FB868625701E000489E0?OpenDocument for an article about him

http://images.google.com/images?q=Derek+Jeter&hl=en&lr=&tab=ni&ie=UTF-8&sa=N for pictures.

Ziggy, that I normally love, I didnt get right way, either. But, since you asked...I googled the quote: It's apparently a "very famous" line spoken by HAL, the computer in 2001 A Space Odessesy. To some people, its an "inside joke" for when computers take over, and rather then doing what we ask, tell us what we can and can't do. Soooo, I imagine it meant the toaster decided not to let Ziggy have his toast this morning. ;)

(Im not really a lurker, just stopped in because I saw Hugs elsewhere and thought I'd see what a "Sandbox" was. BUT...I love looking up useless knowledge, so I HAD to post. :D)

Omi gosh! He IS attractive, isn't he? Silo is a pretty stupid strip. I esp. resent it b/c it replaced a fave comic of mine, Frazz. Have you ever seen it? It's intelligent, literate & more inclusive & multi-cultural than Silo. (Our newspaper billed Silo as "multi-cultural" when it made the replacement..) I love the comics & look forward to them every day. But of course I like some strips more than others.

Thanks for looking up Ziggy. I couldn't find anybody who *got* it. Wonder if he got emails about that.

Another of our members, Johanna, who is currently off entertaining company, lives near the beach in MA. :)Katz
