Anybody giving up anything for Lent?

I've never done it before, partly because I'm not Christian. But they were talking a lot about it on the radio this AM, & I came up w/an idea. I'm going to stop biting & tearing my cuticles. Ouch! I had been thinking about coming on here & asking if anybody had any advice about how to do it. I broke the habit of tearing my fingernails years ago by having an emery board EVERYwhere. Now I file instead of tear. :o) But my cuticles look awful, hurt & sometimes bleed. So I decided to "Just DO It." And now that I've told somebody, ya'll will hold me to it. ;o) Six or 7 weeks is the right amount of time to break a habit, so Lent seemed like a good chance.

Anybody else?

P.S. I forgot to say Happy Fasnaught Day yesterday (the PA Dutch version of Fat Tuesday). LOL. Fasnaughts are sort of like donuts, but not nearly as good. You eat them on Fasnaught Day.

Yeah, I realized later I had misspelled it. So now I know where it comes from. Cool! I knew they're pretty much only made for Fastnacht Day, but I didn't realize the meaning of the name.

OK! Let's help our poor cuticles. I got through 1 day only doing it once. Had to catch myself & stop quite a few times. It's a life-long habit, I think. I know my mom picked at the cuticles on her thumbs, so that's probably where I learned it. Plus, I'm a big "picker"--pimples, scars, etc. Ugh. :o( Mine should definitely be pushed back. tey encroach on my nails. Not lovely. I've never had a manicure. Maybe I'll treat myself to one after Lent. ;o)

that's a good way to start with a manicure... but until then let's stick to our guns and see if we can at least improve the look of our hands.... lots of handcream especially massaged into the nail and cuticles... a few times a day...

No, no lent, I'm not Catholic, but I am proud to say I haven't had a soft drink since January 31st.

I'm drinking distilled water and tea (decaffeinated) mostly. I have to say there are certain foods I eat where I really miss the soda but I'm afraid if I start up again I'll overdo it again.

Yes I should be saving lots of calories as I was mostly drinking non-diet. Not too much but one or two cans a day. The only diet I like is diet dr pepper and that gets old fast. Someone told me diet is like drinking a chemicl factory too so hopefully I can stick with giving it up.

Good for you for not stocking it at home. That's the best way. When I had it at home dd
