I never planned one but I was surprised by one --- my boss threw a surprise "going away" party for me when I quit the company back in 1985! VERY embarrassing as I wanted to leave quietly adn he simply wasn't having that!

Yep, I have thrown a surprise 50th birthday party for my hubby at our house & he was really surprised & a little drunk, since his brother had him out at a bar to keep him out of the house- it was kinda funny !
Our 4 children had a surprise 25th anniversary party for us at a lovely resturant with about 60 people-- Hubby had no clue till he walked in the door, I had no clue until we were walking in & i was noticing alot of cars that I knew were family, I aked my SIL what was going on- she just pushed me in the door & told me to keep walking !! We have 4 great kids- they pulled it off at quite an expensive place !!
LOL, I know I have but I can't really remember who it was for and what the occasion was... The best one was the one my mom organized for my father. My brother and I flew back for his 80th, and he had absolutely no idea that there was going to be a party. He thought we were going to have lunch at the country club. When he entered the building and saw some friends of his he wasn't suspicious at all. It was only when he entered the restaurant that he became suspicious... but it still took him a couple of minutes to realize that it wasn't a coincidence but that they were there for him!
Yes, a few friends threw a surprise farewell for me, which was very sweet of them.
I agree I'm not sure I would want a surpirse party thrown for me.... but it would be neat to throw one.... that was a great way to get everyone together!
