TV Guide

American Idol
The leadoff performers, Ace and Kellie, bolstered my belief that American Idol should stay away from Stevie Wonder songs. Thankfully Ace didn't attempt to sing unnecessary falsetto notes, but I had to agree with Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell: It just wasn't the best vocal performance. Naturally Paula Abdul dissented. Eyeing Ace like he was the last chocolate chip in the Keebler tree house, she thought he "entertained everyone." Kellie professed little prior knowledge about Stevie, and then talked about her false eyelashes looking like tarantulas, something clearly less scary than calamari.

Honestly, I was expecting better from both Elliott and Mandisa. I actually thought Elliott did a better job the last time he attempted a Stevie song, but it was great to see his genuine emotion over meeting his idol. Mandisa was good, just not her usual diva-goddess self. But at least I felt a bit better about contestants doing Stevie songs... until Bucky and Melissa hit the stage. Melissa looked hot, but her dress couldn't make up for lyrical mistakes and flat notes. Bucky handled "Superstition" better than I thought he could, but the hair was absurd. Bucky, a little advice: Next time Ryan Seacrest offers to "update" your image, run for your life. Run, Bucky, run!

The ante was upped substantially by Lisa and Katharine. They both picked perfect songs for their voices and sang beautifully. I agreed with Randy — I loved the way Lisa finished her number. I figured Taylor would do Stevie justice, and his "Livin' for the City" didn't disappoint. When Taylor tones down the shtick and just lets his voice shine through, he's so much more enjoyable. Paris was really good, but then she got overly cute answering Seacrest's questions in song. OK, we get it, you can sing.

Chris closed yet another show in great style, but I kind of wished he'd done something other than his usual rock routine. Though I laughed at Kevin when he back-talked Simon, his performance of "Part-time Lover" single-handedly wiped the slate clear of all the good singers. And I went right back to hoping that no future Idol wannabe attempts Stevie Wonder ever again. — Ken McGilvray

I was fine w/seeing Melissa go, but do you believe Kevin wasn't even in the bottom 3??!! That votefortheworst web site is winning again, just like they did with Scott. :( We really need to get out the votes. I tried to vote but couldn't get through. When the show ends at 10, I can't wait up to vote. It's time for bed.

Yeah, poor Ace looked a bit freaked out, didn't he? LOL

I'm not sure what you mean by "one vote per week." Voting is now on Tuesdays, and you can vote as many times as you want. If you wait a half hour or more after the show is over, sometimes you can get through.

I went to the site just to confirm that it's up & running again this year, and to verify that they're voting for Kevin. I didn't really read the page. I do believe that it's the greatest factor in keeping Kevin alive. Look how long they managed to keep Scott in last year. I'm sure Kevin also has the little girl vote, & maybe some other categories. And of course, it's probably the boppers who power vote the most. Some of them vote hundreds of times, I think. I used to go to the AI site, & they'd say they voted non-stop for the whole time the lines were open. :(

Ok, yes that's what I meant, how many times you can vote. I didn't realize you could vote multiple times. On DWT Stars, after your designated number of votes, it wouldn't "take" your vote anymore. Thanks.

Katz,
I was wondering if Kevin stayed in because of 'vote for the worst', so I just looked up the website, and you're right. They're keeping him in. Once he's gone they're going to vote for Kellie. I don't think she's the worst. Not yet anyway. What a nasty group. Takes the fun out of it when you know who should be voted off, but isn't.

It's on earlier here. 7-9:00. I'd offer to put in a few votes for you, as long as you don't ask me to vote for Taylor. ;)

Hi! I didn't read any of the other posts, but thought I would add my 2 cents anyway. I really like the contestants this year. I feel bad for them when they get kicked off. But the reality is they are going to get kicked off.

I have to say, and I feel bad saying it, but what is up with Bucky? He is kind of cute and seems sweet, but his voice isn't all that great. Does anyone else see that? It is all scratchy and I don't even understand him sometimes. Kevin and Kellie are all cute and full of personality and they sing nice, but they really aren't the best. And well...I will sound kind of like Simon, but Paris, I don't think is connecting with the audience that well. Why is her hair long sometimes and then all curly and short sometimes? She does sing really good though. And Ace is handsome, but the whole stare in the camera thing is just goofy. I like Taylor, but I'm not sure if he will win. He definitely is unique and I look forward to seeing what he will sing each week.

I am kind of new to the boards, so just coming out and saying stuff like this for lots of people to view is kind of foreign to me. I hope I didn't say anything too mean. Just some of the AI thoughts going thru my head. And in closing, I might as well add that I like Katherine, Lisa, Mandesa, Chris, Taylor and Elliot. If any of them win, I will be happy. I think they all sing really, really good. But...not as good as me when I am singing in the car with my kids. I was going to say shower, but everyone says that. he he he

Wow! I didn't know that was possible. There used to be a lot of talk on the AI site about the fact that they should limit the number of votes, but I wondered if the technology existed to do that. Wonder why they don't. I guess it becaue they want to brag about how many votes they get.

LOL. That would be funny. I run to my puter & post to you telling you who to vote for. I like it! At least next week, and maybe for 4 to 8 weeks (aaggghhh!) I'll be able to stay up late enough to vote. Unless I'm still in the hospital on Tuesday night. :( If I am, I hope my roommate likes AI. LOL
