Job woes

The newly-named managing editor, a real witch-on-wheels that a lot of people don't like, is trying to push me out the door. Within a few weeks of being promoted, she managed to get rid of somebody else she didn't like, so I'm the next target. She hasn't liked me from the day I got here. Won't speak to me. The only reason I can think of, since it started as soon as I got here, is that I find & mark her errors, & she doesn't like that. Anyway, a while ago she took away 1/3 of my job responsibilities. Yesterday she took away another 1/3. The responsibilities are being split up among the new, very young, completely inexperienced editorial assistant & the editors, who have too much work as it is. So now stuff sits on their desks waiting, while I twiddle my thumbs & play in iV. How long will my company keep me around when I'm logged into "Out of Work" for hours at a time every day?! My manager wnats me to take a software class so I can do page composition, but I'm never going to be very good at that. That's not my skill, & I never learned to type. They also want me to do online photo searches. Don't know how I feel about that. Don't know if & when tat will ever really start. Meanwhile, others are doing the job I was hired to do and am really good at.

the raspberry is for the managing editor. funny how you catch her mistakes!!! she sounds like a very power hungry witch. too bad your manager does not see what she is doing. is there someone there in HR you can talk to?
one thing i learned at my job at the doc office...be careful who you unload on. one girl was telling the supervisor everything i said. she's still there . i am gone.

i hear you on the typing skills :O) i am self taught but not good enough for clerk/typist.hopefully the others will complain about overload and shift the work back to you. i tried to take a typing class a couple years ago. lets just say...ok...i quit!!!

hope it all works out.

Oh Katz,
Sorry to hear these *games* are going on at your work ::sigh::
Isn't there anyone you can talk to about this?
She sure doesn't sound much like an adult you know?
I mean can she not take you finding her mistakes well?
No one is perfect or does she think she is?
So what do you think is going to happen next?
Please keep us posted .. will think only good thoughts that you stay where you are :)

My manager, Earl, does see what she's doing. I'm not sure what to think of his reaction. He says that when she first started to try to get rid of me, while I was out on sick leave after my surgery, he wrote a letter to the owner of the company saying why we need a proofreader. He says the owner's reaction was "You write a good letter. Maybe you should be editing copy." OK, so much for help fom the owner. No use going to him anyway, since he doesn't know the day-to-day workflow & would have a hard time understanding what I was saying. The head editor, Beth, also does not know the daily workings of the department. Neither does the sole person in HR, of course. Without help from Earl, I don't know what I can do.

LOL. I took typing in HS b/c I had to. If memory serves, I got an F! I have very poor eye/hand coordination.

My manager, Earl, gets (I don't know from whom) a report that shows how our time is spent, according to how we're logged into the system. So Earl, & whoever else, will now see that I'm logged into Out of Work a lot. Unless they find something else for me to do, I'm betting I'll get laid off eventually. :(

Thanks. Proofreading jobs are like hen's teeth these days, so it's scary thinking about getting laid off at age 53. :(

LOL. Yes, I'm quite sure she's not trying to help.

I wouldn't be able to talk to her w/o sounding angry. She has her excuses all lined up, so no point.
