Friends/Advice
Find a Conversation

I am not sure that I should post this here but you all seem so nice that I decided I would.
I need some advice on how to make friends and conversation tips. I am a naturally shy person. I graduated from high school last year. I only had about two friends but not really close because we did not hang out outside of school, and they started talking to me first. Well one of those friends and I go to college together and she has made some more friends. She told me that she just tells people hi. But I don’t know if they would want me to just start talking to them or not. So I really don’t have any friends.
I did take her advice in the second semester and talked to like 3 people. How do you keep a conversation going? When we talked we would have long pauses between just asking each other questions. I am not depressed or anything about it, just wanting some advice.

Welcome to the board :)
When you are with some friends you don't really know ..
A hi & a smile is a great start.
Things to ask would be where are you living, with whom, any pets?
Something else to remember when in a conversation ..
Try to think of questions that require answers as opposed to yes & no.
Hopefully others will have some ideas for you as well.
Hope you'll come back again & play with us here soon :)
Hope you'll join us in the fun
Hi Kendall -
Being shy is tough, but you are in the perfect setting to work on it. You can always just strike up with a hello and a smile. If you get to class early and have a few minutes, maybe ask where someone is from or what their major is. Also, as you start taking more classes in your major, you may see repeat faces - try to strike up conversations with those familiar faces - "were you in so and so's class last spring?" Another good conversation starter is asking if anyone knows anything about this professor or the course.
Is there an area where students in your particular major might hang out? Try to spend some time there if it's possible. Is there a club that goes along with your major or some other interest group you could join? Maybe some volunteer group that's on campus? Just kind of brainstorming here with you.
Keep visiting with us - it is a fun place to hang out. BUt make sure you hang out on campus too.
