that is what happened around here in the poconos. for many years it was a nice vacation area & "honeymoon capital" til people started to live year round. developers bought up land around the lake. now there are more developments going in wherever there is land. we have gambling coming in. it has got very expensive to live here and the pay has never got higher.
people from the city move in and don't like that the town rolls up at 5 and closes up for the winter. so the powers that be give in to them.

I can see them trying to do that here, too.
They want to build "luxury condos" in town and
high priced housing on the hills outside of town,
and then they fight the franchise stores that want
to give us affordable merchandise for the working man.
Safeway is here, but their prices are higher than in the
lower 48.
Fred Meyers has been trying for two years to get a
store in town that won't leave a huge "footprint" on
our quaint little backward town.
Come on!!
I don't want to buy my underwear in the grocery store,
and my clothes online forever,
or drive 80 to 250 miles
one way to get them!!
Why are they fighting this so hard???
They only pay minimum wage to do their service work!!
Who will do the work if we can't afford to live here, too?
We were here first,(since the early 70's) and now we can't afford to live here!!
Where can we go?

It was the usual hot & humid, partly sunny & mostly cloudy with afternoon showers. I really don't know why we're called the sunshine state. It rains almost everyday during the summer. It's hot & muggy tonight with lots of mosquitos.

we have the big stores moved in the past few years. i just don't like the way they sue the towns to build. i'm not a big walmart fan as i don't like the clothes & they are not really cheaper than other stores anymore.i have always liked kmart & sears.
on that note i will be going there later for the soccer stand. one thing that walmart is good for - you can buy in bulk. i refuse to pay warehouse stores $$$ to shop.
recently a mobile park owner sold out to a big condo developer. all the people have to move by next spring. their trailers are over 10 years and cannot be moved to another . they were only offered $1500 each for thier himes. it is disgusting.

i must get off this soap box.....i get so wound up at times!!!

They do that up in Anchorage, too.
buy up the old trailer parks that have been
there forever, and try to put in a parking garage
or something stupid, leaving these poor folks with
little money and no way to replace the only homes
they ever had.
What they should do is require the new developer to
set up a neighborhood with housing for these folks first
then bulldoze down their old trailersafter they have safely
moved. But that's too humane and doesn't make for good business,
right?

Hi Bunny, wow I'd give anything to have some cold dreary windy weather come my way. Then I could just stay inside curled up on the comfy couch reading a good book & drinking some herbal tea in peace and quiet. You're a lucky woman :)
