God bless the Amish

I'm sitting here swallowing tears. I read in the paper this morning how the older girls told the gunman to shoot them first, apparently hoping that their sacrifice might save the younger ones. And the article also said how the Amish have reached out to the shooter's family with love.
I call myself a Christian, but I don't know if I could be so generous in those circumstances. Thank God, if I had to lose my little girl, she fell asleep without pain or fear. I can't even imagine what these parents are going through.
I hope God gives them peace and healing commensurate with the heart they've shown.

Yes, the victims' parents went to the killer's funeral, & have surrounded his family w/forgiveness. Unbelievable, but forgiveness & acceptance is their way. It's the same way when one of their kids is killed in a farm accident, which happens all too frequently around here. They accept it as God's will, bury them, & move on.
Sadly, this is the third killing rampage we've had here in less than a year, that has made international news. The big headline this AM said, "What's Wrong Here?" You may remember that in November, 18-yo David Ludwig killed his 14-yo girlfriend's parents. Then in April, young Jesse Dee Wise, Jr. killed 6 members of his family. Now this. It even turns out that Charles Roberts, the killer of the Amish girls, in 1990 worked in the same local restaurant with teenagers Lawrence Yunkin & Lisa Michelle Lambert, who were both convicted in the murder of teenager Laurie Show in 1992. That was one of our earliest, & most noted murders. They even made a TV movie about it a few years ago. :(
One year, we had 11 children murdered in 12 months. I just don't understand it.
