I need to throw my son a first birthday. I am having it in my house and 1/2 of the family are traveling at least 2 1/2 hours, while others only an hour or 45 mins. I feel I should serve food plus the cake. What should I serve without going overboard. I want to keep it very simple and very relaxed for me. Keep in mind its an adult party, my son will be the ony child.

I agree with Hugs..... A casserole or "one dish" style main course along with a salad and bread would be a nice meal without having to fool with lots of sides and trying to get everything ready on time.

Baked ziti

Lasagna

Shanghai Beef ( a one dish pasta and beef dish with an Asia flair)

Pulled pork BBQ sandwiches

Big crock pot of meatballs and sauce for meatball sandwiches

Pot of hearty chili with cornbread or tortilla chips and salad

Some kind of hearty soup and a big chicken ceasar salad

Hi there,
Between spaghetti, salad & bread ..
They should be able to eat something ..
Maybe you could ask them to bring a dish .. that might help too.
Let us know how it goes

You dont know my husbands mother and sister...LOL They are impossible. At my sons baptism they constantly insulted my food to other family members. And since I didnt ask for her help (MIL) she instantly thought I askd everyone else. So at the party she approched and asked my mother " What did you make?" My mother was side swiped, of cause responding "I didnt do a thing." Then she turned to a neighbor and said " Thanks for all your help?" She then turned around and said "she never asked for my help". She even turned to my husband and said... You did a nice party, my dh said " I didnt do anything, she did it all on her own, cooking, shopping decorations and everything else". I never got good job or nice party from her. WHY??????????? Do you hear what Im dealing with....
Although this she is a wonderful loving nanny, so I deal. My FIL did talk to her about all she done, she hasent spoken to me though. But whats done is done.
Anyway, I still feel I need to have things perfect... even though I have the attitude that I dont care. They are impossible.
