1. Do you have a winter emergency kit in case you lose power or heat??What is in it??
Um... Not exactly, but we always have quite a lot of canned goods around and have tons of blankets if we should need to bundle up awhile. And I guess we've gotten complacent about power outtages here because we're on a priority line on this street. The perks we get for living on the same street as the City Garage and Wastewater Treatment Plant (sewage plant, lol). No one wants those things to lose power!

2. Do you have a first aid kit?? Have you updated or restocked it??
Yes, I do. I recently restocked it when dh got a bad cut (I said he needed stitches, he scoffed) and I didn't have much to put on it except bandaids, lol.

3. If you had to go to a friends if power is lost...what about your pets?? would they be ok??
Well, like I said, we don't lose power here for more than an hour at most, so I never gave it much thought. But if we had to leave the area, we could go to my dd's and I'd bring my cat along. Somehow we'd manage, lol.

4. Do you have any emergency kits for your car?? What is in it??
Again, not exactly. There is a tool kit in my car, but I don't know why, since I'd be lost if the car really broke down. I try to keep cat sand or salt

well Mrs Jack Frost,, what you are back to veercan? LOL

Thought this was a good thing to pass on...not you friday 5 but mine from another board. Info i think we all should have! Thank you , we always enjoy a few questions!

Are you prepared??

1. Do you have a winter emergency kit in case you loose power or heat??What is in it?? At home? we have electric heaters in case the central building heat is not enough or goes out,, of course having said that it would be nice if there was still electric. We have plenty of blankets... of course I have the phone number of the Hilton down the street.... ;O)

LOL< to the number to the hilton. This last month i picked up a heater for the propane tank just in case!

2. Do you have a first aid kit?? Have you updated or restocked it?? I don't well I do, but partially stocked,, better get on it.

LOL mine is in the rv yet...frozen, i am sure. i will have to go through it again. we have a hospital a block away, if needed but no dr most times.

3. If you had to go to a friends if power is lost...what about your pets?? would they be ok?? I would bring Coffee with me or I would not go.

I would not leave price or our new mental kitty either. i so felt for the huricane people that were forced to and still have no pets.

4. Do you have any emergency kits for your car?? What is in it?? It's mandatory in turkey and Germany,,,, you name it,, it's in it,, and newly one must have a whole vest to cover the top portion of oyur body ,, it's a huge thing and reflects headlights so other drivers can see you at night...

The vest is a good idea.I remeber having to walk once on an very lonely streatch of highway...a friend and i. I was in purple. wendy said i looked like a huge grape ...silly woman!

5. Do you know what to do if your car breaks down or is stick in the snow?? Call ADAC? Call dh,, pray,,, I have a candle in the car, a blanket in the back,,,

not yet...but will this week. thank god we have a busy highway and people here do stop!

Bonus: Do you have a cell; a friend/family that know the route you drove; Will someone be looking for you if you do not arrive; Are you dressed for the weather?? Well, no,, that would depend where I was going,, but I normally don't drive far by myself.. no place that Icould not take the subway and tram back home but I brin gmy cell phone.

Here we hjave cells too...but call people to tell them where we are going and when to expect us. Just a Saskatchewan/Canada thing! The sill highschool kids travel in runners and light coats...no mits

A lot of question , I know...but here winter is a serious thing. I can see that,,,, but you for sure are totally prepared....

will be soon here weather can change so fast. two bosses of mine left for the big city on a friday. they had a hour or so drive. One of them was a reserve member. He knew what to pack and do in an emeergentcy...but too was caught unprepared. The storm came out of nowhere. no visibility...they were in the ditch. Nobody could see them as the snow bank grew. no starting the car because of the tail pipe was blocked and the carbon monoxide would have killed them. He peed in a coffee cup and she just peed herself...shesaid she was warm for a minite....then it froze.Gladdy burnt her clothes(from her suitcase) to keep them warm.
A friend of ours....a fireman, called her cell...no answer. Thenb called the place where the meeting was...they didn't show. So bill was smart and determaned enough to get a phone book from the route they took and start calling farmers and begging them to taske the tractors out and look for them. Nobody was intrested in going out in thew storm. serveral hours later he found a farmer that would go out and he found them and took them in till the storm cleared.they we upset, but all right.
That is how fast it can get bad here. It is nothing to be -50f with the windchill in the winter...scarry huh??

That is a good place to live. here we are at the end of the line and are last rehooked most times. Even though we do have a seniors home and a hospital here...that have generators.

2. Do you have a first aid kit?? Have you updated or restocked it??
Yes, I do. I recently restocked it when dh got a bad cut (I said he needed stitches, he scoffed) and I didn't have much to put on it except bandaids, lol.

LOL funny how we all forget about our kits . i have to get mine and look over it. i do have a second one in the house though...not as good as the rv one but good. we also have both taken first aid courses so have that and the books if needed...even in my certifacation has run out.

3. If you had to go to a friends if power is lost...what about your pets?? would they be ok??
Well, like I said, we don't lose power here for more than an hour at most, so I never gave it much thought. But if we had to leave the area, we could go to my dd's and I'd bring my cat along. Somehow we'd manage, lol.

good plan

4. Do you have any emergency kits for your car?? What is in it??
Again, not exactly. There is a tool kit in my car, but I don't know why, since I'd be lost if the car really broke down. I try to keep cat sand or salt in there, but dh keeps taking it out, for some reason. But I do have a bag with mittens and hats in it, and a polar fleece blanket in the trunk. I know I should have a better kit, with flares and stuff, but I keep putting it off, saying I don't drive my car out of town very often in the winter anyway.

LOL i put it off too....but before i take the truck again i will have blankets, first aide kit, cell, phone book, blankets, some heating thing, and something to drink and energy bars too.

5. Do you know what to do if your car breaks down or is stick in the snow??
Basically, yes. IF I have cat sand or salt in there, I can throw that beneath the tires for some traction, and I can rock a car with the best of them, lol. And I can change a tire - if I have to, but I'm pretty lost if it's the engine that breaks down. Then I'd call dh, tie a bright thing to my car ... somewhere (I don't have an antenna if the car isn't running), hunker down with my blanket, hat and mittens from my trunk, and wait for help. (memo to self: put a bright thing - and a stick - in your trunk.)

LOL on memo to self LOL

Ps: school books work as traction too...but ticks teachers off LOL

Bonus: Do you have a cell; a friend/family that know the route you drove; Will someone be looking for you if you do not arrive; Are you dressed for the weather??
I do have a cell phone; Someone usually knows where I'm going and when I'll be there, or at least when I'll be back; and I'm usually dressed for the weather.

Sounds like you are ready with a plan!

Very good questions!

Hey Glenda ;-)

1. Do you have a winter emergency kit in case you loose power or heat??What is in it??

-> Not a kit, but since we experience a lot of power outages where we live, we have just about everything necessary except a generator.

2. Do you have a first aid kit?? Have you updated or restocked it??

-> Yeah and yeah.

3. If you had to go to a friends if power is lost...what about your pets?? would they be ok??

-> No, we stick it out here with the pets. If worse comes to worse, we could head up to our son's apartment and stay with him, but I prefer not to.

4. Do you have any emergency kits for your car?? What is in it??

-> We have a huge storage box of necessities...oil, flares, tarp, gloves, tools, first aid, and all that jazz.

5. Do you know what to do if your car breaks down or is stick in the snow??

-> Yep

Bonus: Do you have a cell; a friend/family that know the route you drove; Will someone be looking for you if you do not arrive; Are you dressed for the weather??

-> Yeah I do and my family keeps in close contact while traveling and we normally keep an extra set of clothing in the car for emergencies.

Donna
I was veercan for years and desided to change. I used the wrong email when logging in and got this again...lol I didnt know it would still come up. The funy thing is no matter what i do neither veercan or mrs.jackfrost can i get a choice of colours ar anyt5hing else on a post...crazy huh??

Glenda, I didn't know veercan was you!!

1. Do you have a winter emergency kit in case you loose power or heat??What is in it?? Yes, I know how to drive to various hotels. I also have plenty of blankets, a non-electric can opener, canned goods, and friends and neighbors that we can stay with if needed. We'd rather head to a hotel though..lol!

LOl a lot of people ay they would go to hotels....wonder if they would have power??? or maybe basic power and no elevators and on generators??

2. Do you have a first aid kit?? Yes. Have you updated or restocked it?? Yes, I have not long ago.

Good...you just never know when you may need it!

3. If you had to go to a friends if power is lost...what about your pets?? would they be ok?? My little Shelby would come with us no matter where we went. Hmmm..guess I'd better find out which hotels accept pets.

We take prince wih us too. we have the rv if we have to go out there and put the furnace on...just no running water and our house pipes my freeze??

4. Do you have any emergency kits for your car?? What is in it?? Yes, I have blankets, flashlights and batteries, first aid kit, knife, water, kitty litter for traction, flares, plastic parkas, umbrella, scissors, matches, plastic bags to potty in if necessary, paper towels and probably more that I'm forgetting now. I do need to update my car first aid kit though. On driving trips out of town, I also pack foods like crackers and extra drinking water. In winter months, I also keep a coat in my car always "just in case", for I often run out with no coat or just a light jacket on. I used to have a folded sun shield for my car windshield. It said "Call Police" on one side. It helped my last DH and I one time when our car broke down on a trip out of state. It allowed one driverby to feel safe to come back and help us. That was before cell phones. I need to get another one of those.

I used to have one of those car signs/shields....wonder what happened to it??

5. Do you know what to do if your car breaks down or is stick in the snow?? Pray!! lol! If my car breaks down, I call AAA to come and get me. If I'm stuck in the snow, I throw kitty litter under the tires and away I go. We don't have huge snow banks here except for where the snow plows pile it up.

I have caa too and love it. Just out here there is very little tow trucks for even them to call...sad but true. if we break down here someone will stop...i have broke down before here. now near a city i call caa.

Bonus: Do you have a cell; a friend/family that know the route you drove; Will someone be looking for you if you do not arrive; Are you dressed for the weather?? Yes, John & I both have cell phones with us always. My kids always know when I'm leaving town, where I'm going and staying, and I call when I get there, a couple of times while I'm there, and when I return home. I do dress for the weather.

The kids never seam to dress for the weather...not a fashionable thing here Sad but true!!

one thing i would love to get is more skidoo pants...mine were borrowed years ago and i never got them back.

Good questions, thank you for the information.
