Well, the croutons are bread cubes, just dry and packaged in a box. Maybe we have a different idea of croutons?

Hi Cin---That's one of my very favorites too! Over the years I've learned that just in my family alone--no 2 recipes are the same!

OK here it is. I called my mom and she emailed me the recipe for some good ol southern cornbread dressing.

Cornbread Dressing

First, make cornbread one to two days before.

2 cups white or yellow cornmeal mix (White Lily or Martha White) NOT the little jiffy packages
1 cup flour (self-rising)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup oil
1 cup milk (may take a bit more)

Bake at 375 degrees until brown and a toothpick comes out clean....about 30 minutes or so.

Dressing

Crumble cornbread and toast (4 pieces of white toast) and mix together. In a separate pan, cook 1 large onion (chopped) and 4 to 5 stalks of chopped celery in a little butter, until onions turn clear. Add to cornbread mixture. Then add 4 raw eggs and 4 hard boiled eggs (chopped fine). Add salt, pepper and sage or poultry seasoning to taste. (Sage gets stronger as it cooks, so add just enough to taste it and it should be ok when it is done.) Add 1 can cream of chicken soup and 1 can cream of celery soup, then finish up by adding broth from the turkey or chicken broth to make it moist. Put in a butter or Pam sprayed casserole and cut up 1 stick of butter over the top of it. Bake at 350 degrees or until nice and brown. Most everything, except the eggs are done anyway, so when it is hot all the way thru and a little brown on top it is done.

LOL Ann,
When I think of croutons I think of putting them on a salad,
However will look for the ones you're talking about ..
Sounds like it would be easier than me cubing my own bread :)
