All the "eat healty hype" as far as I am concerned is spoiling everyone holidays.  Schools have even said all healthy snacks for holiday parties.  Geesh let kids have some fun and be kids, let them have fun Halloween candy, its once a year for crying out loud!!!  Thowing calories into our faces about pumpkin pie, dressing and all the other holiday food!  Its once a year!  Yes, for those on a diet, have some of all of the Thanksgiving food, eat a small serving, piece, ect.  But geesh have some fun and be guilt free!

I am tired of the media telling people how to raise their kids and telling me what to eat!  Enough already!!!!

Just needed to vent this!!!!

Beverly, I couldn't agree with you more.....so many of the traditional dishes are only prepared and served on Thanksgiving and Christmas.......it'all part of what's so special about these holidays! Even New Years' Day and open houses and what's served are special and unique to the Season! I say NOOOO to comprimising....I agree you can take a smaller portion or not have something else not a favorite! Just enjoy....don't stress, for the few days of celebrating let us do it with sheer joy and happiness!

Thanks....I feel so much better.....freeer......aaaahhhh venting is good.

I am one of the moms who pitches fits about all the junk food. IF it were only once in a while that would be different but it isn't. Seems like every time I turn around my kid is being rewarded by someone for something with candy and junk. She gets candy at church for memorizing bible verses, for bringing her bible, she gets candy at tutoring when she brings in a test paper from school with an a, she has 27 kids in her class so there is about a birthday a week, she gets candy for various things in school, my folks buy her junk, and on and on and on. As a mom I would like to be able to treat my child once in a while but when everyone else is treating her pretty daily I can't. Not to mention this is setting up bad eating habits. As an overweight woman married to an overweight husband I know how bad eating habits happen and how hard they are to overcome later in life. The good habits need to be learned as a child and they will follow through to adulthood. Once upon a time how much junk kids ate didn't matter as much because they were burning the calories playing. Now they sit in front of tv screens, video games, and computers.

Schools should server both kinds of food.

I disagree there too. Eating healthy is very expensive, more than double what eating unheathy is. What about the kids who don't get anything healthy at home because mom and dad can't afford it or don't have the time? School breakfast and/or lunch may be the only nutritious foods they get and if they are offered junk what do you think they will pick? Studies have been done on how much better kids do in school that have a healthy breakfast verses those that didn't.

My kids have servived...i think most would.

Maybe instead of all the panic about sugar...ect, maybe those people should get out and get some exersize with their kids. We would all be a lot healthier

There is a huge difference between when we were kids and kids today. When I was little there wasn't a McDs on every corner. Every restauraunt did not have a happy meal. Parents cooked more because there were far less working moms and single parents. There were not nearly as many "convienence" foods out there. Add that to the fact that there weren't computers in every house, video games and round the clock kid tv and you now have a dangerous situation. When I was little it never occured to me to call a friend to see if she could play. I got on my bike and rode over to her house to ask. Instead of video games I played softball and tag. Instead of tv I roller skated and played hide and seek. Things have changed.

i do agree that kids do not need candy & junk all the time. it is nice as a treat. but lunch is lunch. what is wrong with hot dogs, spaghetti or fish sticks & pizza w/ a sid eof salad & fruit
