All the "eat healty hype" as far as I am concerned is spoiling everyone holidays.  Schools have even said all healthy snacks for holiday parties.  Geesh let kids have some fun and be kids, let them have fun Halloween candy, its once a year for crying out loud!!!  Thowing calories into our faces about pumpkin pie, dressing and all the other holiday food!  Its once a year!  Yes, for those on a diet, have some of all of the Thanksgiving food, eat a small serving, piece, ect.  But geesh have some fun and be guilt free!

I am tired of the media telling people how to raise their kids and telling me what to eat!  Enough already!!!!

Just needed to vent this!!!!

They rarely use candy/foods for rewards in schools anymore :)

I wish that were true here! Last year I had to go to the principal about it. Cassidy gets 3 junk food tickets a week (with an option to earn one more). I limit her junk. Junk is pop, snack cakes, candy, chips. It was a huge issue at school. I offered the teacher healthy alternatives but she refused. She was afraid of what the other kids would think while Cassidy ate goldfish crackers when they had to have candy! Principal cleared that right up. And you know what? The other kids didn't care one bit and neither did Cassidy. As long as she had a treat to eat seh didn't care what it was!

Wow that is too bad Rae,
here they are more concerned with kids choking on candy ..
As well as allergies .. therefore less food :)

I hear your pain....parents should have more control over their chilrens diet...but being realistic and reading how and what the treats or rewards are and how frequents this happens you really are "up against it"......sort of a "can't fight city hall" situation! ;-(

Hi Suzan.....I personally think there is more "hype" about Christmas then Thanksgiving! This is one holiday that we gather together without having to buy presents or mail out greeting cards! there are cards you can mail to special friends and relations that live great distances, I prefer to call these people...but that's just me. Yes, most guests will bring a side dish or hostess gift, but it's not required!

Hi Ann....I remember the Gold Stars and how proud and exciting it was to see them on my papers! As I remember we only had sweets for special holidays and then it was controlled....perhaps 2-3 pieces and a cupcake. We did have PE, in fact our middle school and primary schools still have PE, and I remember when we had baseball games between different classes the winning teams would get blue ribbons, no statues, all homemade by the teachers! I do recall when my children were playing on afterschool sports teams it was beginning to get more organized with adults coaching, often parents were more involved. The days of getting enough kids to play a game whenever you wanted were soon history! The last year my son played baseball was not a happy experience...he never complained during the season but after I got an earful, when he said he was through I agreed he had made a good decision! From there on he played tennis---singles and doubles and when he joined the local Tennis Club there were no prima-donnas with their hidden agendas! lol My DD played summer softball and soccer through our Park and Rec dept., much different then the organized teams. My G'daughter has played soccer and baseball since 1st grade and not had the problems her parents and Uncle had...in fact her Dad has coached many of her teams along with another father sharing the job. There have been few problems on all her teams over the years....she now is a sophomore in HS!

Back to those wonderful GOLD STARS! lol
