All the "eat healty hype" as far as I am concerned is spoiling everyone holidays.  Schools have even said all healthy snacks for holiday parties.  Geesh let kids have some fun and be kids, let them have fun Halloween candy, its once a year for crying out loud!!!  Thowing calories into our faces about pumpkin pie, dressing and all the other holiday food!  Its once a year!  Yes, for those on a diet, have some of all of the Thanksgiving food, eat a small serving, piece, ect.  But geesh have some fun and be guilt free!

I am tired of the media telling people how to raise their kids and telling me what to eat!  Enough already!!!!

Just needed to vent this!!!!

I really dont pay much attention to the media at all but sometimes things grab my attention so I will read the article or part of it anyway or watch the segment on TV.

You are right,Beverly kids spend to much time on the computer, xbox, video games, etc. Children in my days and my children days were outside everyday. They were tobagging in the winter, skating, skiing, the other seasons they were outside playing ball, running and playing tag etc.

Lets not forget, Beverly this is not the kids fault, the parents today allow their children to run their lives. Kids are not like when we were growing up. It is very sad. I know when we were growing up , my children growing up. I didn't say no to the odd chocolate bar, or the odd bag of chips, and no they did not eat 24 hours a day and we had more or less healthier snacks than most kids today.

Children need to be out there playing, running it is so unhealthy not to have some kind of exercise in their lives. These parents are allowing their children to kill their brains constantly in front of the computer, tv, etc. How sad this world has come to. It is sad for these kids, because they are the ones that will pay for their childhood mistakes, overeating and no exercise.

Have a good day sweetie, and hugs to you.

I think raising my kids in the country has helped. While they do have video games...they always enjoyed the outdoors. Wehad them camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. Not much for sports...because they were not cheap to get into.

No they do have thier junk food as adults. we seldon had deserts here, mostly your basice meat, potato/rice/noodle, side dishes and the veggies. we ate white bread, and drank tons of milk and juices(some kool aide(made with real sugar)...so really my kids have never been over weight.

Here we have to travel over an house or fast food , so seldom have it! We eat a lot of wild meat...which is low in fat content...so good. Dh and i are over weight...me because i have to take it easy ...waiting for surgery. dh just loves food...sad but true!!

I don't think you can stop junk food....just try and get them outdoors more and not sitting at the puter/tv/video games.

As for pre packages foods...some are not super good for you, i know. But i was going to school or on welfare for a short period of time and know how expensive a good diet it. I have also worked in a food bank and know how poorer people struggle to feed the kids good stuff. Not easy!! Esp in the colder regions where fresh food is costly!

For a poor family a big christmas dinner (usually from a hamper) is something words could never express. At least on day a year they get to eat a wonderful meal...so what if there are some things that could be better for you! It is once a year!

My mom made simple garden salads. we had a lot of frozen foods...all are nopt bad , you know. We survived. Many of the kids i knew survived too.
My mom could not cook to save our lives....so frozen foods filled a lot of the gaps.

Ps: here in winter fresh is too expensive for most families. Everything has to be trucked in. I have a full freezer, as usual. this does not mean i am a bad cook...but this is what our budget allows. Also as i said, i worked in a food bank and too nutrition courses with it, so know what i am talking about.

I think diets are like religions....to each his own. As long as kids are fed and happy...life goes on.

Frozen is often way better than canned and sometimes better than "fresh"!

You're singing MY song! Takes a long time to learn to love ourselves....I'm learning. If your weight stays the same no matter what you eat or how much you exercise then it appears that must be your ideal?

Boy I would love to have my weight stay the same all the time but for now I'm not going near the scale....about once a month when I see my specialist they take me to the scale! lol
