Thanks, it is good to be back, except for the snow and ice we have now. Blech. . .ready to head back to HK for more of the wonderful weather. I'll share some pictures after hubby gets home. He has the digital camera in his possession and I'll grab the memory card after he gets settled.
So here goes:
Let's see. . .December is probably one of the best times to go. Pretty much zero humidity, dry, temps vary between 68 to 78. Most of the time it was about 73 degrees there. You spend a lot of time taking the transit system or walking versus cabs or driving.
Saw a lot of wedding parties being photographed as December is the wedding month in HK, just like June is here. Fun to watch the brides and grooms. The hotel we stayed in, held at least four receptions over the course of two days.
The city of HK is split in half by the ocean. Last time we stayed on the Kowloon side and visited Central. This time we stayed in Central which is actually on HK Island and visited Kowloon. Watched the nightly light show and the city was bedecked in holiday lights. The people in HK really get into decorating for the holidays. . .unbelievable stuff.
Went to Victoria Peak again. Then took the MRT (train system) to Sha Tin on the mainland to see 10 Thousand Buddhas. Walked up 468 stairs to the top of the monastery. We had dinner with another couple we know at a restaurant in the area. Had some fantastic Cantonese food. Couple of days later, I met the wife in the shopping district to visit Hollywood Road, Soho, Antique District, Public Markets, an old British building that was converted from a public market back into shopping and restaurants (architecture is awesome) and saw temple tucked into the middle of all of these buildings, new and old) that is several centuries old.
Hubby and I also hopped on a ferry and took a ride to Macau to spend the day there. Macau is an island that was under the Portuguese influence for hundreds of years until it was handed back over to China. We went into one of the oldest areas and had Portuguese food for lunch, walked all over and then visited some of the casinos that are sprouting up around there.
Did some window shopping (HK has hundreds of big label stores and malls which don't interest me), small market shopping and I picked up two tea sets and two cashmere scarves as gifts. I just like being out in the midst of the citizens as that is the only way you can get a real feel of what the country is like.
Anyway, I got home Thursday morning. Hubby had to go back to Shenzhen for work and he'll be home on this coming Tuesday. We had a wonderful time and I'm so lucky that hubby likes my company enough to have me come visit. ;-)
What a wonderful experience! I envy both of you to be able to visit lands and see things
Hi Twoki,
I'm not sure when Ali will be coming home for Christmas. I guess it depends if the kids are working on Christmas Eve or not. I'll know more probably by next week.
Sheela slid right into being by herself easily. Helps when they live on their own at college for a while. ;-) Anyway the guy she is seeing came over to visit and one of her best friends and her family invited her over for dinner a couple of times. She could barely wait to come home and see me on Thursday. Called twice to let me know how happy she was to have me home. Funny kid.
