Thank you note has me confused!

Hello everyone,
I interviewed for this job almost two weeks ago and the woman interviewing me took my portfolio but promised to mail it back. I knew it was the first round of interviews and I followed up with a Thank you email. I never got a reply but I figured the person might be busy. I called her on Friday to follow up and she was kind of cold maybe she was busy and asked me to call HR but before hanging up she said "I appreciate you calling."
I called HR and I was told they haven't started second round of interviews. Today, I got my portfolio in the mail with a handwritten note from her saying: "Thanks very much. It was a pleasure meeting you." Now I'm wondering what does this mean? I know it's hard to read into a note but I'm hoping I still have a chance. Now I'm driving myself crazy wondering if getting my portfolio back means... I've been eliminated from the running. I was hoping to get it back in person during the second interview.
I used the portfolio as an excuse to write to her... and say thank you for sending it back and hoped we get another chance to discuss my experience in more detail. I'm hoping she responds. What do you guys think? Am I just thinking too much? I got laid off 4 months ago and I really want and need the job. :(

Often getting a thank you note back means just that.
You'll have to wait & see.
I wouldn't call her again though.
Good luck ..
Let's see what others might say as well :)
That was a rather ambiguous note, and I can see why you'd be confused, but the interviewer who took your portfolio did say she'd mail it back, so I wouldn't be too discouraged by that.

Just do yourself a favor and check out other potential positions while you're waiting on this one. Hubby did that and by the time this one company got their crap together, he had accepted a different job and was working there for a month. In today's job market, people can't afford to narrow their search based on an ambiguous interview.
Good luck, something better will come your way.
Thanks for your advice. I have been looking and applying at other places so hopefully I find something soon!
I have found out through years of job hunting and dealing with HR people, they all have their own set of rules and pretty much do what they please, when they please.
