QOTW: Funeral attire?

As I packed to come here for the funeral, I packed black slacks, black shoes a white /black print blouse and a pretty black sweater,, it wasn't too serious looking but just black.   I have also attended funerals in other colors but not loud splashy things.  I wore dark green silk pants and a pale green top to my dad's funeral (but that was in the heat of the summer) anyway,,,,,,   I happened to notice that people came in all different things.  OK I can accept that, and I know that one is attending a funeral not a fashion show but is there no limit ?

Do you think it's appropriate to show up in jeans, sneakers and an old anorak?

I think the rules have relaxed a lot. Around here, I've seen people come in just about anything, from dressy, almost cocktail dresses, to jeans and sneakers.

Seriously Suzan - it depends on how the deceased was in life - if he/she absoluted hating getting all dolled up in suits and dresses and heels then you give them a send off with whatever is comfortable that you know the person 'lying there' would love.

Times are different now - at least here in Canada.

I dont think id be to pleased to see people wearing sneakers and jeans.

I think it's out of respect to at leaste dress up for a funarel.

At my brothers funarel last september,i was amazed at how all the younger people were dressed so nicely, alot of bikers but they all wore suits.Im sure my Brother would have got a kick out of that.

I would prefer to see everyone dressed in what is appropriate to my standards, which would not be "

Very true! My BIL was buried in jeans and a flannel shirt, because that's what he was most comfortable in!

Here black is still the main colour. I wore a black dress with a jacket over it. I was tan, black to match the dress. Black slides. This was to dads funeral.
My cousins came in nice clean jeans and dress shirts.
To me if the clothes are clean and you are clean...that is what is important. Not like my sister going shopping and wearing a fancy dress to the funeral...sad!! It was a show to be seen at for her.

Rusty

That is so nice to wear what he loved. Now that is the way a funeral should be.
I remember my cousin wearing a sparkly shirt to her dads funeral. Then people talking about it. Sad but true. She was pretty poor withy 4 little kids.As long as you are clean nobody needs to tell you anything.
A very sad situation. My cousin just had found out his dad was not his real dad.
Guess mom and dad payed for my uncles funeral

While i do agree you dress nicely in dark clothes for a funeral. I have seen jeans...but know that is because that is all they have and can afford.
I went in jeans once. i fit in with the bikers LOL. The reason i went in jeans is because i was so sick with all that i am going through. So bloated i could not get into anything else. Sadly i paid my respects in jeans..what i had , what i could wear. You see anything else was tight and with my bad back it made me nausious!

Had to go to the funeral. It was our friewnds son. just 20 (or there abouts), and stabbed by someone on drugs! so sad!
