I'm a big user of my crockpot; it's so nice to toss in a variety of ingredients, turn it on and voila, the majority of our evening meal is take care of. I'm always looking for ideas to jazz things up, so I checked out this "Slow Cook for Better Health" slideshow.

I found a tip for using hard apple cider when cooking pork roast. Anyone ever try it? It definitely sounds interesting; I'll have to give it a try. I also love oatmeal and the steel cut oats sound good; I just can't seem to find them in my local stores. I may just have to break down and look for them online. ;-)

I used to use mine mainly for beans, soups, and stews, but I'm trying to become more adventurous with it.

Oh, who am I kidding... adventure? I'm just thrilled with the time I save checking pots on the stove! LOL

So now I know who to tap if I need to

You are totally making my mouth water! Thanks for the tips; I'll look for them again in the specialty aisle. If not there, maybe the health food store will carry them.

My family loves beef brisket cooked with golden mushroom soup; it turns out so tender in the crockpot. I'll have to try your pork chop idea. ;-)

Hi, I have used apple cider with my food in the crock pot and then I advanced to canned fruit - the juice in the cans makes the meat much tastier and I do that all the time now.

that's ok bren :O) i have been using my cp for years.i figured if i can cook it on the stove or in the oven it can go in the cp- especially casseroles:O) i agree- less pans!

one of my favorites in the cp is chicken & italian dressing. i have made this using a whole chicken or just thighs or breasts. all skinless of course! yep i peel the skin off.

it is just this simple: chicken & a bottle of your favorite italian salad dressing in the cp on low til chicken is cooked.

Golden mushroom soup is a staple in my pantry. I always get compliments on my ..ahem .. homemade gravy. DH just laughs cause it took him 20 years to catch on, ;-)
