Have you ever seen the total of your grocery bill and wondered what you got that was that expensive? I just did. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't nearly $160! But I guess (after looking at the receipt) it's right. We were out of a lot of staples... and I got quite a bit of meat... and a few deals I couldn't pass up... so I guess it's right.  Well, it isn't right, but it is correct, LOL! ....I may have to make this stretch a bit further than I thought I would, though!

Do you ever get "sticker shock", or are you one of those people who is able to keep a running total of your order in your head?

Yes, I think meat was a big reason for the higher than average total this time. I got a box of boneless, skinless

Our prices here for fruit are high most times because very little is grown here. In sask we have some berries(saskatoon, strawberry, raspberry,gooseberry...ect). in canada we have apples, some oranges(not many), peaches nectorines, and grapes. That is about it.
That is why fruit costs so much here....and no crops all winter.

Here i get chicken breasts from wal-mart. i don't know if you have that there. But they are good and at a good price. some are $5 or $10. The bigger ones feed us two to three meals with the three of us.
I also get fresh frozen fish there for under $5 a package...cheapest in the area

How do you fix your ground turkey? I tried it years ago and made burgers and meat loaf and it was way too dry. I tried mixing it half and half with lean ground beef, the that didn't taste good either.

My DH gets sticker shock. When I buy groceries. I like to keep food on hand. So I buy more than one. He usually just buys one.

I just use it in casseroles like I would ground beef.

Oh, okay, that's it, it contains fat, that's why it's moist. The one I used had as close to no fat as they could get. Looking at the nutritional counts for Jenny-O ground turkey, it says it contains 17 grams of fat per serving. That is a very large amount. What confuses me though, is that they also say it contains 4.0 grams of saturated fat and 0.5 grams of trans fats with 85 miligrams of cholesterol. I don't know how that adds to 17 grams of total fat.

This is like the one I used to buy.....

I might try that again in casseroles whenever I find casserole recipes that I like. Not big on casseroles, but they do stretch the dollar, so I'm going to give it a try.

Thank you for the information.

No, thank YOU for the information! I don't get Jennie O, or at least the package looked different, but I'm going to check on the fat in what I do use! The liquid I get when I brown it doesn't look like grease, though. It looks more like water. It wouldn't surprise me to find out
