Frugal grocery shopping and foods.......

To go along with Ann's post about the high grocery bills we're all paying these days.....

What have you cut out, if anything, to cut down on the grocery bills?

What foods or dishes do you fix to stretch the dollar?

Do you use coupons?

Do you only grocery shop when there are sales on the items you use?

Do you shop at discount grocery stores?

I think we may have talked about at least some of this in the past, but my aging brain doesn't remember..or..it may have been on Joyful Home board. Anyway, indulge me please for I'm open to ideas..LOL!!

What have you cut out, if anything, to cut down on the grocery bills?

Extras. Like snack foods, more expensive cuts of meats, Fancy fruits and veggies(like avacado or boc choy...ect.), nuts, stuff for baking some stuff.any pop or booze.(booze and pop are #1 we cut out...we seldom drink here)

What foods or dishes do you fix to stretch the dollar? Mac and cheese, stew, hamburger dishes, Lots of potatoes, cheeper veggies.

Do you use coupons? Sometimes. Seldom do we get any of anything we use.If we do and need it or it is on sale...we use the coupons for things like that. We get coupons here for buying up to a certain amount of money worth...those coupons i use as we don't shop very often.

Do you only grocery shop when there are sales on the items you use? If there is a good sale and i can afford it i pick up a lot of case lots...but only stuff i know we will use up in time. The coop here often has case lot sales.

Do you shop at discount grocery stores? We sure do if it is good quality. i like the big lot stores, discount places and walmart too. I really look around to see what they have...but to check prices elsewhere and the dates it is good to. sometimes these stores sell a lot of stuff almost out of date too.

What have you cut out, if anything, to cut down on the grocery bills? we have cut down on a lot of ready made sweets

What foods or dishes do you fix to stretch the dollar? any kinds of casserole will last us at least three days

Do you use coupons? no, they only take them at face value here. plus we don't get a newspaper so don't get coupons

Do you only grocery shop when there are sales on the items you use? i love to look for sales and stock up on stuff.

Do you shop at discount grocery stores? yes, mostly we shop at wal-mart unless other stores have a good sale.

Like snack foods, more expensive cuts of meats, Fancy fruits and veggies(like avacado or boc choy...ect.), nuts, stuff for baking some stuff.any pop or booze.(booze and pop are #1 we cut out...we seldom drink here) I'm kind of like that too..use more stretch meats, cut out fruits except for large bags of apples that are cheaper than buying them individually, buy large bags of frozen veggies instead of fresh except for potatoes, onions and baby carrots. I know baby carrots is more costly, but I need the convenience of those. I do buy raw almonds for health reasons, but get them in bulk at a discount nuts store. John is not much of a drinker, though he'll have a glass of wine with me. I've cut down to a glass of wine only every 3-4 days instead of almost every night. It's medicinal doncha know..lol!

Do you use coupons? Sometimes. Seldom do we get any of anything we use. Same with me. I do use them now, didn't used to bother with them, but only use those for items I normally do buy and need that week. If we do and need it or it is on sale...we use the coupons for things like that. We get coupons here for buying up to a certain amount of money worth Nice, they don't do that here! They do give 10 cents off per gallon of gas though for every $100 worth of groceries bought....those coupons i use as we don't shop very often.

Do you only grocery shop when there are sales on the items you use? If there is a good sale and i can afford it i pick up a lot of case lots...but only stuff i know we will use up in time. The coop here often has case lot sales. I don't have storage space for much bulk packages, so have to be careful with buying those. I need to watch more closely for sales, I've never done that before.

I really look around to see what they have...but to check prices elsewhere and the dates it is good to. sometimes these stores sell a lot of stuff almost out of date too. I forgot about Big Lot, used to buy sale items there when I used to run a consignment booth. The Dollar Store has some good buys too on things that I normally do use. Good idea to check the dates!

What have you cut out, if anything, to cut down on the grocery bills? we have cut down on a lot of ready made sweets Yea, me too, but that was done way before grocery bills got higher. Sure miss the olden days when I could eat my sweets and not gain weight. Well, those days are gone forever..lol!!
