Hey all. My parents need to buy a washing machine and they are not sure whether to go with the old type where you lift the lid or the kind that they have out now that you open a door on the front. Anyone have experience good, bad, or ugly with the front load ones? Thanks

top loaders are not sold here so I had no choice,,

I have heard nothing but good things about the front loading. I want one bad!
You can put in bigger things and don't have to worry about the stupid agitator that stuff can get wrapped around
Hi Amy .. we had Maytag washing machines for years and even though they left fluff on the dark load the 20 minute cycle was absolutely fantastic when I had lots of washing to do.
Hi Amy, I've had both and my preference is top loading.

I have heard there is a vibration problem with the new front loaders. The pedestal you can buy to put them on helps. It would depend on what type of floor it's on as to how much of a problem it can be. The pedestals also raise the machines up high so you'd not have to bend as much as with a regular front loader or a top loader.
If you Google...forums top loader vs front loader washers...you'll get more
Hi.....I , myself, have a top loader.....But, my DD has a front loader & as somebody else said here......the cycles take FOREVER !!!
My two cents - Top loader. When we were looking for a new washer and dryer last year, we researched both kinds and there were more complaints about front loaders. They cost more, for one thing, because if you don't shell out for the pedastals, you have to bend over really far to use them, they need special detergent, and there just seemed to be more problems in general with them.
We got a two year old top loader and I love it (I'm using it now, lol). It's got a huge tub (really - gigantic!) and seems to get clothes really clean. It does have a center agitator, but I've never had a problem with clothes getting wrapped around it. But they do make top loaders without a center agitator, if that's what you want.
As for what brand mine is.... I should know, I was just down there... I think it's an Amana. If I'm wrong, I'll correct myself after my next trip downstairs.
