the wedding disasters

i guess we can laugh about it all now, but while we were living through it it was horrible.
first of all when the bride and her daughters tried on their dresses her's and the youngest's did not fit. so, i looked up online and found the address of david's bridal in savannah and they went on sunday. the dresses were altered by 7 on monday night. the woman that was supposed to bake the wedding cake backed out and so after church on sunday i bought cake mixes and peach preserves and whipped vanilla frosting at a local grocery store. they had also just told us that they didn't have food for the reception so i got some tuna, peanut butter and jelly and pimento cheese. then after lunch made a run to wal-mart in statesboro and bought cake pans, special icing, coloring, bag and tips a plate for it and platters for the sandwiches a sectioned platter for the fruit tray. dd had one for the veggie tray.
the night before the wedding dd baked the wedding cake and dh leveled all the layers. we put the peach preserves between the layers to hold them together and put it in the fridge. they decided to ice it at the church the next day.
ds2 waited at the house for the florist delivery while we all went early the next day to set up for the reception before the wedding and start the coffee, make the punch and various other little details.
he arrived at the church and most of the flowers had not been delivered. ds1 calls and was told that was all the order they had. so dd and the bride head out to find a florist, they did and he did a very good job at a moments notice with the boutineers and her bouquet.
since dd was with the bride and i was running around putting the rest of the reception together dh and ds2 decorated the wedding cake. dh did the decorating and ds2 told him what he needed where and which was the good side. it turned out really good i thought, there was never another one like it and never will be again.
i was highly allergic to the corsage they ordered for me, so i could not wear it and had to carry it in.
the wedding was an hour and a half late but they got married and that's what counts.
they will be here wednesday to say goodbye as they leave thursday to return to kuwait for four and a half more months.

I think you deserve a Mother of The Year award!!! Your new DDIL should revere you forever!!

So glad things turned out well after all the mishaps Ellen. Thank you for posting it here too. I know your house got finished on time too. Your husband is amazing!!! Wonderful how everyone pitched in to get things done on time.

Now I wish the new bride and groom many good healthy happy years of a long life together. May God bless them extra as they return to duty.

What a great Mom you are! I'd be in a puddle somewhere, babbling senselessly if all that had gone wrong at my dd's wedding!

It's a little funny about you being allergic to your corsage - my dd discovered she was allergic to her bouquet! She didn't notice it at first, or at the reception, because she wasn't always near it long enough to notice, but when it was in the hotel room with them, she realized it

WOW!! that was a mess!! I think i would have reported all the business's to the better business bureau.

when i worked in the coop bakery we had to do a bunch of rush cakes...friends or family backed out and left us to do it. Try getting a cake to a wedding reception(three layer with glasses between the levels) up a story and have it not melt in the heat. I got it there. another girl from the bakery helped haul it. Darn that thing was heavy.

I have also heard of florists that have done the lost part of the order...or sold it off before the wedding. sad but true.

You guys handled it all with dignity and diligence! Good for al of you!!

Glad it is over...i bet you are worn out!!

Happy Easter! (big)

the house was done enough to get by, we still have a few little things to finish. they can wait though nothing is a rush job.
our dsil painted the new living room and was a champ about it. he also helped haul in the new sectional that my dh swore would not fit and i told him it would and it did.
as for anything that didn't go wrong, well all the clothes that i got for my son and his boys fit so that was good. and all the stuff i got for the reception was ok.
it was all the stuff the bride tried to do online that didn't work out. it's such a shame too.

hilary,
your ds's bride will probably be right there and able to handle things firsthand. valerie was half a world away and trying to do everything online and that just didn't work out. she also depended on her brother to get the cake done and that didn't work out.
we got it done and that's all the counts.
i know your ds's wedding will be wonderful.
